Hi all,

Just wandered if anyone has any experience of getting Insurance on classic cars for young drivers ??. My daughter who is 18 is about to do her test and loves her classic cars but i have always assumed it would be out of the question financially £££££ under age 25. She would like something a bit smaller and economical than a p6 maybe a mini, austin 1100 or a herald, anyone think this possible or is she condemned to a plastic eurobox for the first few years.

Cheers Colin

from my experience it's not the £ it's the insurers. Most won't do it under 21.

Managed to get insurance when I was 18 through Norwich Union on the Midget, this was about 10 years ago and it cost about £800 with both parents added on.

My youngest daughter had an mpi sportpack cooper as her 1st car 5 years ago when she was 18. Premium was around £1100 fully comp in her name - Insurers were Quinn Direct.

Mark.

my lad (18 at the time) insured his 1979 1.1l fiesta through swinton
it cost him £2000 but you gain no claims binus each year

I believe the Morris Minor Owners Club have a scheme for young drivers. How would she fancy a Minor? Loads to choose from, easy to work on and unrivalled spares availability.

Thanks for the comments guys, very helpful. Hopefully she will pass her test soon and we can start looking for a little run around, have to say hadn't thought of a Morris Minor but could be a possibility,

Cheers Colin
