Clicking Starter Motor

For the first time in 19 years of ownership my 67 2000 SC 's starter motor is just clicking when i turn the ignition key to start .... I have cleaned up the battery terms and the battery is in good condition , no joy , i then turned the starter over using the square bolt on the back of it a few times with a spanner , this worked and the car started fine but a few starts later and it clicks again and i have to turn the bolt on the back of the starter to get it to start for a few times before the clicking again !!

What is the problem with the starter ? Do i need a new one or can i recon it myself as i did my Dynamo a while back ?

Thanks guys ! Any ideas much appreciated .

I guess that the starter drive pinion is sticking as it is contaminated with dust from the clutch. For a start you should remove it and inspect yourself the pinion assembly. Even if it is badly worn, new assemblies are still available, as are rebuilt kits (brushes and phosphor-bronze bushes). If you reconditioned the dynamo by yourself, i assume that you are also capable of rebuilding the starter too.
