Coppertops 2000TC

I got the Vinvyl from JosephP6man he had some original Vinyl available for about £35.00 (I think)

As for doing it it was quite easy in comparision to the other i had done on a Ford Capri

I removed roof and cleaned it down sanded it to give a key.
Applied evostick contact adhesive - I tipped the glue on while my son used a radiator roller to spread it even all over the roof
Waited for contact time
Then the tricky bit as the Vinyl was only half of an inch longer than roof
(in comes mate and other son 4 men on job)
We held the vinyl at all four corners and slowley lowered it to the front edge of roof keeping the rear well away from the glue
2 men at front started to press the vinyl down (like wall papering) from the middle to hre outside edges
we slowly lowered the rear edges down as they continued to press roof down accross the surface
(The glue is a contact adhesive so once it touched it stuck)
Once we had all the vinyl down we went over the roof again with hands cloth and a roller to make sure no trapped air pockets
after a couple of hours we trimmed exess vinyl from width to roof metal
we refitted the roof following day and i siliconed all the gutter trough overlapping onto vinyl edges.

In all prep and fitting vinyl took about 45 minutes at most

job was easy enough but having roof on floor and 4 men when fitting made the job easy

Hope this helps out

Cheers

Note the front number plate
I replaced the rear plate housing as the old one was starting to look tatty and the front plate looked plain so i used the old rear plate turned it upside down and got what i think is a nice plate holder

Nice to see somewone else utilise this idea as well!
It does look as if it was meant to be like it doesn't it! :)

I am well chuffed with progress so far even though it has taken six month to date.

Stil got a fair way to go and there is always something else to do at moment.

At least I know have the car as i wanted it to be and that i know is all ok - so far, just hope engine is decent when we are ready to try it out

it has 67k on clock and runs fine on drive - lets hope

The Vinyl went on with no creases and followed all the contours ok

I thought the front curves may have been an issue, but it just laid on with no problems at all.

New carpet arrived yesterday fitted today

Bought from coverzone off internet with sound deadening and clips cost around £220
Quality fine all visible edges bound in vinyl
Pre Cut but required holes gutting for gear shit and handbrake

few bumps at rear tunnel behind console maybe they will settle in?

Didnt have the all covers that go over the seat fixings below carpet so i raided the green house and found the trays you put under plants in sturdy plastic were a perfect fit with help of the angle grinder

still got to fit replacement centre consol but couldnt resist fitting seats for a preview.

found out that using a passengers seat upper on drivers side wasnt such a good idea as my leg room is restricted seat wont go back due to seat belt real, well it will get me on road for now ina few weeks hopefully

A few pics of interior

That looks fantastic!
Your car has really given me the inspiration I needed to get going in mine (as they are almost twins with similar rot too!)

I'm going the '70's black leather route and only hope it looks half as good :D

What a transformation! The hard work has certainly paid off and it looks great. Nice one :D

I second that, looked at the start of the thread for the 'before' pics. I hope mine turns out as good. top job!

Thanks for comments

Sorted back brakes today and refitted Dedion tube & Gaitor

Started her up and took her down the drive - Whooppee all seems fine :D :D

Bit of water leak from drivers side plate & water pump to replace - Still to fit centre consol and adjust wires to drivers back light

Then I think its get some insurance and take her for a test drive.

Not too bad 8 months after I bought her nearly to the day (and all work done by ourselves)- I may be able to drive her.

its now something nice to look at and be proud of its still a 38 year old car whith a massive steering wheel, but its ours and we are happy and have enjoyed the challenge, It was more than i wanted to undertake, but my son Keith has really worked had learning what to do and doing all the bits i couldnt see or attempt myself

Thanks to all on site for assistance during progress and i am sure we will have further updates

Cheers

You've done a great job with the car, she looks very nice.

I like the little touch with the rover badge on the spare wheel cover too, I might copy that (hmmmmm) :D

Well done

Dave

Got another 2 problems to work on

The carbs are out of sync and running very rich.

Had a look and they have quite a few wrong screws in and very poor fit - (didnt know you could make a wood screw fit a carb)
Just won a set on ebay so at least before i start messing i will have a full decent set of carbs(Hopefully)
To weaken the mixture is it screw down mixture screw?

Squeak from rear tie bar bush - I thought these were shot so no suprise just waiting for wife to chill before i buy some more bits sure you have been there

Other than these doesnt seem anything major (at moment) and plenty of admirers when i take her out.

Few teething problems now car is up and running next thing will be the MOT in late November from state car was in with 12 months MOT it should fly through but I am sure there will be something to sort

Squeak from rear would seem to be half shaft universal joints will be fitting new ones later

Slave Cylinder seals split - replace now, but aquard to bleed we hads to bleed off car vertical no problems then.

Brake fluid drip ever so slightly from rear caliper - think it will need seal replacements also

Still buying bits to finish off just got some nos rear shocks and pair of headrests, (its addictive)

We have also just finished the other project Austin 1300 Auto a few pics of them both on test drive out.
