Decal Placement Reference Library

Hi all,

Whilst I'm not seeking to build a concourse car, I do want to get things as close to original as possible. What I'm hoping is that people will contribute to a thread that can act as an informal reference library for those of us who are at the stage of replacing decals/stickers. Looking for any information on how to place
1. The square under bonnet lubrication sticker
2. The small tyre size/pressure decal,
3. The Premium fuel sticker on the rear windscreen, and
4. What other sticker/decal should any self respecting P6 be adorned with

My car is a Series 1 2000

Hi PNP,

The P6 has a LOT of stickers on it, the majority of which are available from Classic Repro.
The exact sticker design and location varies from model to model.

To answer your specific questions:

1. The under bonnet lubrication sticker was always at the bottom left on 4-cylinders
2. Not familiar with this label
3. Only fitted to 2000 TC and pre-74 3500 models which had high compression engines.
4. LOTS... a non exhaustive list is below:

Inner wings:

• Lubrication chart - many variations for models and year
• Paint code
• Patents declaration
• 'E' Approval numbers
• "Most Important" label on 2000 TC and high compression 3500 cars.
• Radiator cowl red warning label on 3500

Engine bay:

• Smiths label (heater box side)
• Caution Draining label (heater box side)
• Trico label - washer bottle
• "Flexibly mounted carburettors" - top edge of 2000 TC air box only

Windows:

• Triplex Laminated / 'Zebrazone' sticker - bottom centre of front windscreen - immediately above top lip of decker panel
• 5-star fuel label - bottom corner of rear windscreen, immediately above fuel filler cap - high comp TC and V8s only.
• Tax disc holder (obviously)

Boot:

• "Do Not Slam" label - top edge of rear valance, covered by bootlid when closed
• Wheel stowage label - hangs from boot light switch bracket

Misc:

• Negative Earth (inner wings for neg earth S1, battery compartment lid for boot-mounted batteries)
• Seat Belt anchorage label - OSF A-pillar, visible with drivers door open. Fixed at an angle.

In addition to what Michael said, the series 1 2000 had a few different decals, depending on the year of production. Earlier cars are different to the later ones..

Here are a selection of decals from my car, appreciate that being a V8 the under bonnet ones will differ to yours.

I was mistaken earlier. There is a 4-star label as well as 5-star label (see Hershman's photo), which would be suitable for your car, although it may not have been fitted to all models in all years.

I don't think I've ever seen one for the choke, but if you find one, let me know as I like to "collect them all".

Wow! Never seen one of those but I want one!! Wonder if they have been reproduced?

My car still had some plastic over the carpet ( albeit very tatty). That tag on the choke is nec level.

Question. The lub sticker on the 2000 goes on the LHS. Looks from Hershman’s V8 pic that it sits parallel to the guard edge. How far back from the front edge should I stick it?

Not wanting to divert the thread but here's a couple that might be of interest. The Doctor Calling belongs to my car's first owner, found inside the driver's door during restoration and the steering lock notice together with the keys were found behing the passenger side back seat taped to the rear bulkhead.

I've seen a lot of the 2200TC/3500 dash decals over the years. They should have been removed when fitted, but sometimes never were.

I’ve heard about those, but have never seen one until now. I’ll have to add it to my list of decals to do. Does that second line say Avoidable Bad Starting?
