Diff Extension Tube leak - Easy way to fix ?

Ron has started shunting when going from D to R, so following comments on the site I thought I would inspect the Diff mounts. Ron appears to leaking oil from the diff extension tube, where the proshaft connects, the rubber bush connectinfg the extension to the "subframe" also seems shot (due to being covered in oil ?).

According to the manual, I have to take the whole extension off to replace the bush and dismantle using special tools to replace the oil seal. Is it possible to replace the oil seal and bush in situ ? Anybody tried ?

I don't think you have to take the extension tube off to replace the bush. I changed the one on my car when I rebuilt it but that was with back end completely dismantled. The nose bush is the same as the two diff carrier mounting bushes under the tank by the way.

Never changed an oil seal so can't help there but I would recommend cleaning it up and trying to see how severe the leak really is before commiting to replacing it as it might just be years of accumulated oil mist. Also check to see if the diff breather is clear as this will worsen any leak.
