Distributor baseplate

Hi all,

Turns out I have the early baseplate on my V8 distributor (triangular type shape) and need one with the rounded baseplate to fit the ignition module I just received. Before returning the module or getting a whole replacement distributor I wanted to ask if the baseplates are interchangeable?

Regards,

Tor

Hello Tor,

Looking at the diagram in the workshop manual, it does not appear as if there would be a problem in changing the base plates, although looking on the parts book, there are a number of differences... :? It actually might be better to see if you can obtain the correct module for your distributor.

Ron.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for that. I was comparing mine while looking at Vaultsman's posting and the baseplates themselves are completely different looking, including a locating aperture for the condenser on the later one, which is the type I want, while the body seems identical. It's also unreasonably hard to figure out if any of the electronic modules will suit my early distributor. RPI, for instance, simply couldn't say if the Lumenition kit would fit. Vaultsman's Ignitor fits the later dizzy. So until I know for sure I'll have to try to source a baseplate and see...

Hi Tor,

It would be worth, I think, you dropping an email to Martin at >Distributor Doctor< who's pretty knowledgeable (and helpful!) on 35D8's to see whether they're interchangeable.

You can use the pics from >this page< to clarify, but I'm sure he'll know the differences.

Cheers,

Thanks for the link Stan, I've sent him a query. Failing this, I'll probably go for an Ignitor (module LU-183) as well, which makes more sense than replacing the dizzy, which is otherwise fine :)
