Distributor caps

Hello Dave,
There are differences in the design of the Lucas V8 distributor caps, hence the reason some are advertised as for the SD1 while others are for the P6B, with large variations in price too!
The difference is on the underside, where the contacts are. The design of the contacts and the orientation of the face exposed to the rotor are different, and of course the rotor as part of the specific distributor will also be of a different design to suit the cap meant for it.

P6B and SD1 V8 caps are the same, luckily enough as new SD1 distributors always came with a new cap, and all of those I changed under warranty were fitted with their shiny new caps, but all the old units went back to the factory with faulty ones. Now whatever could have happened to all those good secondhand dizzy caps...........

I know that the rotors in the Lucas distributors fitted to the P6B and SD1 were different, so I assumed that the caps may well have been to.. :? I have to admit that I have not looked under an SD1 distributor cap, but given the price differences I thought that there must have been a something in it. If Harvey says that they are the same,..
I do have one of the latter Lucas distributors fitted to a Range Rover, and the contact design inside the cap is quite different, and so is the rotor.
If the cap that you are looking at says that it is suited to the P6B, then you will have no problem.
