Do You Have SimonBBC Electronic Ignition?

Dear Forum,

Please see attached video. http://s861.photobucket.com/user/raylis ... a.mp4.html

Is this normal?

I have been unable (despite REPEATED attempts) to obtain a satisfactory answer from SimonBBC to the following simple question: 'Should the the spline be fastened securely in the Vacuum Unit or it should allow the Vacuum Unit to slide in and out’?

My gut says that any movement from the vacuum unit that is not governed by the knurled vernier adjusting nut at the other end renders the vernier (and therefore the vacuum unit) pointless?

All I need to know is should I leave the vacuum unit able to slide on its spline or should I glue it in place to prevent this in-and-out -movement?

Ray.

I'm a bit confused here as you seem to have asked the same question in three different threads on three separate days, and have even already included this video in one of the other threads.

Many answers have been given, and they all indicate that it should not move like that, (and some have guided you where else to look), so as I say I'm a bit confused as to why you are asking again in a new thread :?

I do apologise, codekiddie, but I appear to be unable to get the answer to a straightforward question:

Choose ONE OF THE FOLLOWING;

1. THE VACUUM UNIT SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SLIDE IN AND OUT ON ITS SPLINE, THEREBY NEGATING ANY EFFECT EXERTED BY THE KNURLED VERNIER ADJUSTMENT NUT.

2. THE VACUUM UNIT SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SLIDE IN AND OUT ON ITS SPLINE, THEREBY ALLOWING ANY EFFECT EXERTED BY THE KNURLED VERNIER ADJUSTMENT NUT.

I was hoping that an electronic ignition forum member could answer this question?

You could, but the vernier adjuster nut should prevent the unit from moving more than a couple of mms. Is the nut missing? Or the wrong size? Can't see the adjuster nut in your video so it's hard to tell what's happening at the other end.

I think the more helpful photo from Ray is this one:

The fixed peg, on which the adjuster runs, clearly isn't! And this is the part that Ray is referring to as having a spline locating it in the vacuum unit. Clearly there should be something else, such as a crimp or a circlip or even just plain old glue to secure it in place.

Where did that pic come from? No wonder, we are talking at cross purposes!

Colin
I was just re-checking the other threads posts on the subject as I didn't remember seeing it either  Hope it's not another 'senior' moment for me :(

Hi, Chris, that's OK! I think that is what was needed, someone to talk him through it.
Frustration was building up, certainly this end. I am glad it is all resolved. Well done!
I suppose I should have asked the obvious question "What splines". I have not seen
that happen before.
