Hi all, just curious to know if anyone has considered trying bioethonol E85 in a P6? It seems slightly cheaper than petrol, better for the environment, and 100 octane! P6 fuel systems don't seem to contain a huge amount of rubber hoses/seals (just carbs and fuel tap i think) which could be effected by the fuel. My only concerns would be seals, vapourisation, and a possible effect on engine temperature. I could be completely off the mark here but woundered if anyone had toughts on it? Also considering a bio diesel blend for my modern jag.
Regards,
Dave

Hello Dave,

The information that is available in Australia on ethenol blended fuels, and I see no reason why it would not also apply to vehicles in the U.K is....
If your vehicle is fitted with a carburettor, then it is NOT a suitable fuel to use. Being a blend it does not atomise in the same way as straight petrol, so your engine will not run properly. It is also corrosive to the carburettor/s and fuel lines and as such using this fuel will initially result in poor running, and ultimately complete engine and fuel system failure.

Ron,
thanks for that. I'd since looked at an american site which did mention the problem of corrosion due to the fact that alcohol can retain water, unlike petrol. It also mentioned a corrosion problem where disimilar metals are in contact. However it made no mention of not being able to run with carbs. Won't try filling up with that then!

Dave
