Electronic ignition.

Hi, I have just got off the phone from Simon BBC after enquiring about an electronic ignition kit. He says I would need to replace the entire distributor. Is there any other option available to me?

Is it down to your dizzy baseplate? If so which dizzy do you have? If you have pics of the inside maybe someone will be able to work out which secondhand dizzy you'd need to procure?

Thanks for your help.

I have 2 at home that are different. I'll check if my spare is the same or different to yours... Will let you know later!

OK i've checked mine and as i thought the spare that i have is different to the one on the car. Unfortunately the spare one looks identical to yours....

What we need is an expert on dizzys to tell us which sort you need to get hold of second hand i guess. When it's not p'ing it down i'll clean mine up on the car to read the number off it for you if nobody who knows comes along. Dont know if you can make out the plate but this is the one the lumenition does fit...

Hi Phil

The baseplate on your dissy is the same as mine and I have a Pertronix Igniter fitted. Check here for the correct type for your dissy and baseplate.

Thanks guys. What's the difference between igniter 1 and 2 apart from the cost? Do I need a new coil
Or can I use my standard one? Anything else need replacing? Is there a uk stockist for pertronix or is it US only?

Ignitor 2 has some advantages such as extended dwell and 400% greater voltage if you use the ignitor 2 coil (you dont have to) plus it also has reverse connection protection and a voltage cut out if in the stalled psition (ie you leave the ignition on). and for a few dollars more I opted for that.
