anybody any experience of electronic ingnition on v8 -does it affect rev counter etc -what makes are best-by the way thanks pilkie-andy
 
Noting that you said best I would look at the Pertronix range of offerings.
There are 2 variants of Rev counter 1 should work well with out any modification the other not so much.
A search in this section of the forum should provide you with huge amount of info.

My Rover has been running Lumenition since 1991 and to date it has provided over 215,000 Miles (347,000km) of service with 100% reliability. It works perfectly with the V8 and I have had no problems at all with the functionality of the tacho.
