ENGINE Conversion - Automatic to manual gearbox

Hi,

How easy is it to change the parts on a 4 cylinder engine that was manufactured for an automatic gearbox so that this can be used with a manual gearbox?

Apart from the obvious flywheel & matting plate, what other parts would be required?

I am contemplating a conversion to a 5-speed gearbox (my car is already a manual but I have a spare 2.2 engine that I would like to use at the same time as the upgrade).

Many thanks

Gary,

If you search back through the forum posts this was discussed in depth a few times.

I was going to go down the 5 speed route but decided to get my box overhauled and it is nice although a 5th speed would be nice for motorway cruising.

clutch pedal and pipe/slave cylinder/gearbox mounts/gearstick unless you already got 1/bypass the inhibitor wiring(easy job)
if u go the manual box way then put a new cylinder on the clutch bellhousing as they are cheap and easy to get hold of..mini ones are the same but a few do need a small amount of metal taken off from the bolt area as they p6 bolts are slightly bigger in width than mini ones.

The only thing that actually needs changing on the engine itself is the spigot bush, in all other respects the engines are exactly the same. All the other, parts, flywheel/gearbox/clutch etc. as listed above make an easy bolt on conversion.
