Hi all

I am planning to do an oil change ,as I have a sticky tappet ,someone recommended I should use an engine flush ,but I have read that these are no good for an older engine ,I have read that putting some dexron 2 atf is a possible cure for a noisy tappet ,is this the case ?

Cheers

Nope because everything that's happily stuck to the sump and every nook and cranny will be "flushed" into your pumps and bearings including a load of metal shards that'll happily work with the oil like liquid sandpaper.

I wouldn't do it and certainly not without cleaning the sump and strainer until spotless first.

Same reason you shouldn't use high detergent oils on old cars. However if you always used it from new and everything went into the filter over time instead of the sump then that's OK.
