engine swap

Hi all,you may have read about my problems in 'struggling for power' and i'm toying with the idea of swapping engines.

There's one on Ebay at the moment that i'm bidding on (was up for a pound so got in touch with the guy and he said he'd do it for £100,thought i'd chance it on the auction and now it looks like its going to go over that,ah well some you win)its the same as mine,a 2000SC.

Really looking forward to getting stuck in to it.Are there any top tips for me?

If i don't manage to win it there's also a 2200SC engine on there with an automatic gearbox.Would this engine be a straight swap in for mine or am i just asking a stupid question?

Many thanks for any advice.

To fit an automatic engine to a manual car you will have to fit the flywheel and spigot bush from your manual engine to the new (automatic) one. That's the only difference I can think of at the moment.

Put in the 2200 engine & join the club. Mines a 2000 with a 2200 engine. I didn't do it myself but it seems to have been a fairly painless swap! The little extra bit of power would be welcome too I'm sure!

Just won the 2000 SC engine and hopefully pick it up at the weekend.Says its been converted to run on unleaded and has the paperwork to say so.Will let you know how i get on.

Hi all,

Quick update for you.Picked up the car from London(400 mile round trip!).Got the engine out of that one and have got the engine out of mine.Scrubbed down the engine bay and have painted everywhere the paint brush would reach.I am having the time of my life,no problems so far, some troublesum nuts but that's to be expected.I'm going to polish up the rocker cover to get it looking nice.

I want to get the engine itself looking tidy,is there a paint/product I can use?

The engine should already be painted quite a nice shade of light blue, they are usually well coated and the paint doesn't seem to flake off, so I would first give the outside of the block a good wash down with Gunk or white spirit also works and is cheaper. If you still don't like the finish then you can get engine laquer from most accessory shops in various colours.
