i am thinking well im going to put a ford.... god dare i say it, V6 2.8i engine and auto box into my 70` series 1 P6,
i know its not a usual job as in the V8 conversion.
any theorys?
i can get more bhp for less cylinders and about the same mpg but with the benfit of the simple injection system.
any advice welcome.
thanks...

also will the rest of the transmission take the extra bhp, about 160bhp ithink.
without the air con and the power steering pumps fitted to the engine i might be able to free a few extra horses from the motor.
what do you lot think ???
also what about the ratio on the rover is it the same or similar to the ford.... "ooh there it is again"... granada, diff` ratio.

Don't do it.

It would be easier to extract more power from the V8 than changing the engine for a F (sorry, I just can't type that word) V6. The V8 also sounds better and will last longer. Unless you have serious problems with the V8 I just can't see the point. Surely you didn't buy a P6B for its economy?

Don't do it.

the rover i have is a 4yl model not a V8, the V8`s only return about 15mpg, the 2L is about 25mpg, on a good day with the wind behind you. :D
so i`ll get the same mpg but better bhp without mods to the engine.
plus the engine has only 26000 on it with a recon auto box.
please dont ruin it for me........ :(

Sorry old boy, your original thread said that you would get more BHP from fewer cylinders. I assumed that you had a V8.

Even so, an engine from a F**d!

It doesn't bear thinking about!

Hmmmm, I'm usually all for engine transplants, and I'm not really a "purist" but still, a F*** V6 in a P6 ! I can't believe you even considered it !

Saying that, they are fitting Ford V8's into the latest 75's....

If you want better economy and decent power you could use a Rover 2ltr M16 / T16 as used in the 800/600/400/200 range can be used rear drive with the addition of a sherpa gearbox, or 2ltr sd1 gearbox.

These are fuel injected, produce about 140bhp, 40+mpg (in a 800) and say ROVER on the top ! And if you want more power, the T16 Turbo (820 Vittesse, 420turbo, 220turbo/coupe, 620ti) came with 180 or 200 bhp, and can easily be tweaked for 220+ (even 420bhp if you've got loads of cash) And that will be easily faster than a dodgy cologne v6.....

Why not do it, its your Rover and you can stick a Ford V6 in if you want. There could be a problem with the rear drive not being strong enough to take the extra power and torque of the V6, or thats what most people and Rover themselves say. The axle ratio is 3.54:1 on the 2000 and 3.08:1 on the V8.

You could change to the V8 spec rear drive unit for peace of mind, and it will also reduce the rpm at any given speed compared to your existing drive unit. The later 2200 drive units were also uprated but have the same 3.54:1 ratio as what you should already have. They are a straight swap, and should take no more than a couple of hours to switch over.

The bottom line is that it is your choice as to what you do. My own personal worry would be the drive unit, but you could leave it as it is for now and change it at a later date. Changing to the higher ratio with the extra power could help with the overall longevity of the engine and also with the fuel consumption.

Good luck with whatever you do.

thanks for your support y`si`.
positivity much appreciated,
good idea about the v8 diff, what sort of money do thay go for?
i would really like a 2.5 tdi bmw engine but they are slightly expensive, well just a bit..........
thanks again..... :p
as allways any advice given is taken and considered wether its for or against.
thanks.

At the end of the day, it will be quite a task whatever engine you use. Choice of engine usually depends on whats available... If you've got a good ford v6 and box then thats probably the best solution.

I for one was only kidding over the Ford thing.. Its a shame everything has gone FWD making rwd conversions difficult, because I would always suggest getting the most modern and common engine you can find, that way parts should be cheap and available for a while.

Anything ford or Vauxhall is always a safe bet. I would have a search round the breakers, you may find that Omega engines can be found cheaply, they will be rear drive and possibly a decent diesel unit too ?

You could probably get a BMW engine in a running 3 or 5 series quite cheap, the earlier ones go for pennies...
