Engines number

Hi every wone
Wood like to know if mine engine is fited with rope seals ore oil seal . Engine number is 84009729, whit 10/5 compresion . what is the difference between composite head gaskets en tin gaskets . What dho you desire if you had tho choose . Thanks everywone for your reaction

Hi is your engine number stamped near the dip stick tube or on the webbing on block behind left hand cylinder head?
Pretty sure later Type lip rear seal engines had the engine number by dip stick tube area.
Ive got a feeling that if you use composite gaskets on 10/5.1 it reduces to 10/25.1.
Regards.
Clive.

The composite gasket is thicker and seals better. It will drop the compression by 0.6-0.7 or so but you can skim the head by 20 thou to restore this. If you have a 10.5:1 a composite gasket will drop it just enough to run standard 95 unleaded. But of course you lose power.

Thanks for your reactions , i am running one LPG most of the time . So puting a camshaft tho rise the horse power wood be lost by puting composite gasket .

That's a P5B engine number, and you need the suffix letter at the end of the number to tell whether it's a rope rear main seal, or a lipseal. All P5B engines are 10.5:1cr, but suffix A B & C are ropeseal, Suffix D are lipseal.

Composite gaskets will reduce the cr from 10.5 to about 9.9:1. Land Rover 3.9 camshafts give an increase in the mid range with out any losses at the top end, so worth doing while you're doing the job.
