I would suggest a wander round a breakers yard
If you can find one with a good selection of classic!
A modern looking tank just wouldnt look right!
Best bet is an autojumble, but me and bri had a job finding the right one for the job!
Ideally you need one with the in/out flow pipe on the bottom and connect that to the overflow on the rad with a plain cap, then fit the pressure cap to the expansion tank with the overflow pipe on its top outlet!
The white ones are the best as you can see the level easy.
Put a search on ebay classic car parts for expansion tank and it will let you know when any come up!!

Hi guys .
Like most places the old school breakers down here are all gone . No more crawling about stacks of old motors on a Saturday morning . I,ll keep an eye on ebay . Something neat , like the see through , no scalded face doing the checks !

Only problem I can see with that one is that it has the holes in it for the two coolant level sensors which the SD1 had drilled into the bottom of it, which are prone to leaking, especially as the seals are probably about 30 years old by now, and never worked anyway.

Theoretically you could mount it at any height. But it makes it easier to be sure you have the connecting pipe full if it is slightly higher, likewise try and avoid loops up or down in the hose that could trap an air pocket.

Thanks Chris, one other thing, the radiator cap came with the tank, so can I cut away the spring on the radiator cap to re use that or do I have to get a new cap for the rad

If the Rover rad cap fits the expansion tank then use it there, if it doesn't fit then buy a 15lb cap that fits, along with a blank cap for the rad.

triumph dolomites (I had a '76 1850HL) had the plastic ones as well same as pilkie has, try looking for these rather than the brass ones?? looking at the engine bay of a dolomite will give you some idea on how to site the tank in relation to the rad. this is what I am hoping to locate one day as you can see the coolant level in the tank.
