Facet Electric fuel pump

Hi guys,

I've got an electric fuel pump i'm trying to wire, and although I've done a fair bit of engine work, I just can't get to grips with the wiring!
Two wires come off the Facet fuel pump. Black and red.
Black, earth. Easy.
Now, the red they say connect to a Oil Pressure Switch (I have a P6 Series 1 V8, don't think I have this?), or alternatively to the ignition wire.
I have no idea where the ignition wire is!
Can you not connect the red wire to the plus of the coil? Would this give it a constant 12v feed?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

I am assuming that you are placing the fuel pump beneath the tank?

The positive side of the coil does not have a constant 12V on it, as it is connected via a ballast resistor. The only time 12V appears is during starting, at other times it varies from approx 6.6V to 10V or so.

You can connect the positive to one of the green wires after fuse 21-22. This fuse is for screen washer, stop lamps, reverse lamps, gauges and flashers. As such the pump will only come when you turn the ignition to position 2, thus prior to and after the engine has started. You'll need to run an extension wire so just use some electrical connectors to link the necessary sections. The extension wire should have a capacity of at least 10A.

Ron.

Ron & Colin,

Many thanks for your answers! I will try this out today.
Unfortunately having starting issues (possibly choke problem), so hoping to sort both out at the same time!

I recently had a Facet Red Top fitted that took some wire tweakage to get running - will take and post up some pictures when I can.

Have all the fuel lines up to the carb been changed too? Post fitting my new pump exposed a small leak in the engine bay in-line filter & connections.
