Fibreglass Doors ?

I'm sure the racers would be interested.
Are you planning on tooling up for skins or shells and skins?

Probably the full door, I'm going to do the extended doors and rear wings for the new convertible, but I've also got a perfect set of standard doors which I could take moulds off.

Would you bond in inserts so the standard hinges and locks could be used ?
Fibreglass door skins would be a good idea . Bond them to the old shell and trim the edges to get good shut lines

I was considering bonding in stainless inserts, to improve the "rust free" potential of the doors.
Bonding fibre skins onto standard shells might be tricky and difficult to reproduce the folded edge effect of a standard door. Whereas it should be possible to include the seam in a full door moulding (although it would have to be made in two sections anway)

Not really comparing apples with apples though.
A door is a much more complicated thing to make!

It cost me about £260 to have S/H doors de-rusted and fixed up properly. rust free door would be around the £80 upwards I Guess.

GRP souund good.

If your really stuck for doors. I have an imaculate set of MK1 doors with the rare sealed rear 1/4 lights.
My original mk2 doors are salvagable so I shall be keeping those! :D

... pity the sills arn't useable :(

Richard,

Keep us up to date on this one, I'd be very interested. I was never a huge fan of fibreglass wings until I had them...

Cheers

Sure thing, a bit slow progress on the car at the moment, but still looking to do the fibreglass doors.

Never had a problem with fibreglass myself, as long as it's a decent thickness and properly supported.

I've got a full set of fibre wings, valences, sills in the garage and to be honest they are better shaped than a lot of the cheap repro steel panels.

I bought the wings etc from Ianp6man - now Rover Classics, they were all on the same car, although front and rear valances hadn't been fitted. I've no idea who originally produced them. They are very good quality, wings having all the returns and inside mouldings.
