Finding the right alternator

My ignition light and ammeter are doing this

I figure it might be time for an new alternator

I had a search on ebay and initially found some which said they were suitable then did a search on a different device and some different ones said they were right. Now i'm just confused so i though i might ask on here for anyone with a link to an alternator to suit a 1973 P6B

Might be worth replacing the brushes as if worn too short would give the symptoms you have . Looks like a Lucas 18ACR too me .

I didn't know just the brushes could be replaced. I'll look into that

Hello Jim,

It certainly appears to be the brushes being in need of replacement, or rather more likely just one of them. They are easy to replace, the part that takes the longest is removing and refitting the alternator.

your oil pressure gauge is reading low, for those revs ,if its reading at all !!

Indeed actual failure is almost always bushes or the diode pack. There isn't much else to go wrong really until the bearings start getting noisy.

Yeh it's not reading unfortunately. The fuel, temp and oil gauge have gone down. Voltage regulator i believe?

Oil pressure gauge doesn't run through the voltage stabiliser, that's for fuel and temp gauges only.
