First breakdown...

Well, it had to happen. After two years I suddenly had a strong smell of fuel and pulled over.

The feed to the jet was leaking very badly where it enters the float chamber on a HS6. An easy fix at home with tools but as I'm the member of a recovery service I chose this route.

Amazing how quickly a rather lethal looking pool of petrol will form in the "V" of the engine. I decided not to risk death in a a flaming fireball. I've heard of Ford V engines go up in smoke this way but has it ever happened to a P6?

I think also a service in case I have any fuel in the oil.

I know of at least one SD1 where the engine and car went up in flames after one of the plastic fuel lines delivering fuel to the carburettors had split. Same will happen to a P6B if one of the lines fails or something similar, provided the conditions are condusive.

uncommon event happily but some plastic lines do age and crack with time due to hardening/vibration.stress. rubber lines tend to be better but more costly. these to will over time degrade. best ideally to replace for new every 15 years or so.

Ääh, does anyone know the required inner diameter of the fuel lines. Want to order rubber pipes

Thats a too common sight, my 60s mini caught fire under bonnet due to main jet parting company with float chamber.
I was very lucky to put out fire only because i carried a full size fire extinguisher,a must for any classic.
I have also fitted a quick release negative battery terminal just in case on my/dads p6 .
Clive.
