Welcome to the forum Jason! :)

Sounds quite a fleet you have there, do you do much work on them yourself? Look forward to a few pics...we love 'em on here! :D

There are a few Irish members on here, Dave McSweeney springing to mind straight away. (Forum name: dmcsweeney). Try a search on his posts and drop him a PM.

Cheers for now,

always a buzz when you dont get unpleasant surprises when pocking around a new acquisition , esp in places that dont see much sunlight .
Have loads of fun with that lovely V8

Hi,

Our car is Joint owned so spends some of it's time in the Northwest of Northern Ireland and sometime near Belfast. The competitions we do have us visiting the various corners of Ireland so I'm sure we'll be near you at some point :D

Check out our exploits either in the members projects section or via Gavin's blog: http://p6v8.wordpress.com/

Hello & welcome Jason. Glad you eventually decided to get a proper car  (only kidding, as I'm quite fond of just about anything Triumph).

Some pic's of Rover and other cars please.

hi jvy,yea got a few cars alright, there all over the place :D ,ill have to get a few pic's up.

yea im a triumph man true and true. bought the p6 by pot luck, was on my way to look at a 2500s triumph,4spd overdrive.
spotted a ad on the net for p6,it was on the way to triumph. ah got it as a change of scenary realy.

driven the rover now for the last week, and yes it is nice, but not up to a triumphs road craft or performance, ive got a good 2.5pi,and it out classes the rover abit,il fettle the rover and see if we can improve it  my p6 first rover car ive had, well ive a sdi 2600,but wouldnt class it as a car 8) . ive a good few range rover,so know my v8s.

yes,thanks for the welcome

If your rover isn't as fast as a 2500 then a good tune is definitely in order. Get the carbs balancedelectronic ignition and spend a bit of time getting the timing and mix right. If you do this send me a full spec for your car. Fwiw a good standard needle for the hif carbs would appear to be bbw rather than the standard bak.

Handling wise the rover rolls more but the De Dion means you've got much more grip than you think.

Rich.

hi rich, dont get me wrong,as i said il have to have a look and set up rover, but she still not going to be earth shattering.

my triumph isnt a dull 2500,she a full powered mk1 2.5pi,fuel injected, all be it lucas

it all comes down to what your into,im also a bmw man,and like there set up suspension wise, mcpherson in the front, irs in the rear. triumph have the same set up.

yea il get into the rover buzz when i get her set up,timing points carb balance.

see im spoilt that 2.5pi has the right suspension type and rack and pinion steering, much sharper drive.

il post a few pics of the pair of them.

il get the p6 bug.

Hi Jay,

As others have alluded to the V8 P6, even in standard, is a surprisingly quick car. Even when our car was little more than warmed over it set some truly startling times, and the clock doesn’t lie. It may look and indeed feel a little ungainly but you’ll find that you’re covering ground way more quickly than you, or those watching you, think.

There are some pretty simple and well established modifications you can do to sharpen up things if that’s your desire.

By all means bring you 2.5Pi out to play………. If you think you’re quick enough :p

Tim

Tim , do you ever get your car over to England ?. Would love to see it in action. How about the national rally in Warwickshire , I'm sure there would be a lot of interest

Chuck the SU's and put in a Weber 500 in, HP and torque figures and power to weight don't lie I would say the PI would be in the dust. not a challenge mind you  you may note the GTO in my sig line I a know fast cars and a properly fettled S should eat most family sedans and sports cars moderns included.

Hi,

Funnily enough the subject of coming over at the end of June has come up, we would be very interested in the Driving tests being talked about for Gaydon on the Saturday

Unfortunately there is an expensive to cross stretch of water between us and fun though that weekend would undoubtedly be it would probably cost similar to “doing” the Circuit retro. Below are our current plans, some events are “Lane Rallies” some are out and out Auto-tests and the biggy “the retro” is a proper multi day Historic Road Rally.

• 20th April – DMC Springfling Lanes Rally
• 8th May – TSCCni Autotest (Clubman) **
• 12st June – TSCCni Autotest (Clubman) **
• 20th July 2013 – QUBMC Summer Lanes Rally
• 14th August – TSCCni Autotest (Clubman) **
• 7th September – TSCCni Autotest (Clubman) **
• 11th to 13th Oct 2013 – U.A.C. Circuit of Ireland Retro
• 26th Oct 2013 – LMC October Lanes Rally
• 9th Nov 2013 – BDMC Autumn Lanes Rally
• 27th Dec 2013 – UAC It’s not the Boxing Day Rally

We’ll just have to see how far the budget will stretch :?

On the subject of making the car quicker, it very much depends on how you define quicker or more to the point how you measure it. If you’re talking about trying to cover ground quicker on a race track or the open (but twisty) road then prioritise handling, braking, grip etc….. way above trying to extract more power. Only now at this point in our cars development does it now feel that the car lacks a wee bit of power. I also think the SU set-up is pretty good and changing it would not be near the top of the improvement list, but each to their own.

ah lads, you picking me up wrong, ive only had it a week, and all ive done is changed oil and put petrol into it.

i dont think she is quick, and i dont think they will ever be quick unless you spend alot of money :D

to me the 2.5pi more a drivers choice, out of the box.

ah my pi has had alot of tricks done to it,and didnt cost the earth.

dare i say it none of these cars are quick,as my other cars like bmws are m3,750il,850csi etc.

ive had my e type jags, there very quick, but a pig on bends, and have you ever parked 1

yes, give me a few pointers at how to get the rover to be able to get out of its own way

this is a welcome section,so we better stop this kind of chat

jay

:) It's all in good humour!

Other thing i forgot on the little list for the engine fettling is to make sure full throttle at the pedal is the same at the carbs.

If it isnt bend the bar up so that it is!

The Manchester Branch of The P6 Club are thinking of a trip to the Emerald Isle to meet up with the P6's over their. Maybe we should look Into a weekend when Tim and Gavin are doing their stuff.
