first p6 to own

dare i say it none of these cars are quick,as my other cars like bmws are m3,750il,850csi etc.

Hi,

I think the word is perspective……… I’m reliably informed that after driving a Hillclimb single seater on slicks with aero wings pretty much everything feels pretty pedestrian and unresponsive

All I’ll say is our P6 does better than most would expect, it rolls a bit (not so much anymore) it appears a tad ungainly but when the stopwatch stops none of that matters.

We’d be very glad to see some more Triumphs running in our class, to be fair we'd like to see more of anything running in our class!!!!! We run as a large saloon, which really means anything not a Mini or MG Midget, it would be nice to see some more "proper" large saloons running.

I learned to drive in a Frogeye & they feel very fast at 35mph on a twisty country lane when you're sitting legs straight out a few inches off the road. 8)

hi again, yea see where your coming from, and ill have a look at what i can do to make it as"quick" as you all think they are.

im only out for a bit of fun,ive plenty of whoosh whoosh cars in my collection, from minis to bmw 750il with 590bhp,a real cufflink carrage. not a has been also ran choclate gto, quick me bum  .

il have a look, and see what can be done.

you auto tester lads better watch out with your sheds of p6s  ,the boxy starlets will eat you up,and there only 1.3cc.

again your wasting the pages to welcome people.

to be honest for the running costs,i dont think its worth the expence for the small return a v8 p6 gives back to you.

dont know where the where the power is 150bhp,sure back in the day a bmw 3.0 was 200bhp,then they had a 3.3 that was 211bhp,and the sweet heart the 3.5 that was 218bhp,all also built in the 70s.

its only reality im talking, like even a bmw 2002tii would out run alot, even now,and thats a baby, have had a few of those, see ive had a lot of cars to copare to,and the p6 so far is a big let down, mite be a cr@@p one i have???

as ive said b4,il throw 100euro at it,if it still not up to what you say it is,off to the nackers yard

thanks jay

ghce, you mention you have a quick car, what is it???? not the wine coloured gto    grow up

OK 0 to 60 MPH in 5.0 seconds for a 1990 car??? perhaps your definition of a fast car is different than mine, saying grow up on any forum wont engender happy responses from any responder. Remembering here that the p6 is a 1970's car (1968 for the V8), it not the HP that provides performance so much as the torque than HP figures give a better indicator as to driveability that and the total car weight.
The math is quite simple the P6B is a 1300KG production car and for the HP and torque of the day offered quite sporty performance in a family sedan sized car, there are always faster cars that can be quoted and I have owned many of them perhaps not 500 Plus HP cars that weighed 2000 or more KG but smaller sportier cars with good power to weight..... perhaps I should grow up but I am not on this forum to measure penis size.

On Ya Mate -nip this in the bud . This forum is beyond that sort of challenging infantile crap

For me it's simple, the Rover V8 is quick, it is a large 4 door saloon giving a fantastic ride quality even for a 70's car. Look at the total package. Only one winner. If I wanted speed I would have bought the veyron when I had the chance. :D

Quite simple really . Look at the market that has grown around tuning the RV8 , and the manufactures and builders of kit cars , TVR included . Then compare that with the same for the Triumph engine Which is , UMM , UH , well , non existant

hi ladys and gents, back after a short break.

couldnt help myself,i went out and bought the trummy 2500s that i also looked at when i bought the rover 3500s
wonderful car. and with overdrive, why didnt rover go down that way??.

also strange that the triumph had proper timber trim inside and a much better feel, and fit and finish, where the rover had a lot of plastic (modern material then) and had the real parts bin feel.

just my thoughts.

anyway onto rovers

ive given my 3500s a good going over,new cap,leads,electronic ign,plugs.

flame traps,carbs off,cleaned,all re set up,oil change,all filters.

fan taken off, electric fan on rad.

timing set.

its starts on the button, and drives well, big improvement, but still no ball of fire, not as "nippy" as everyone here has mentioned.

also did compresion test, all came out good and even enough.

it will have to do,ive a friend with a dyno,i have it arranged to pop it on to it some weekend soon.

as we all know cars go down hill, and never hold onto there looks :D ,or power so 150bhp is the target

150 as a minimum on an s. rolling road to get some richer needles on it is a great plan:)
