fitting power steering onto S1 V8

If you have shrouding on the radiator you may need to modify that to clear the pump?

The pump may be a problem as there is a recess in the front cross member to accommodate it. obviuosly you will also need the extra pulley setup attached to the back of the harmonic balancer. Being at the back you need to remove the fanbelt and thread it around things to get the PS belt on on...

However the same space can be occupied by an Astra (amongst others) electric power steering pump. The standard Rover setup is clever but rather difficult to work on and is mounted back to front.

The actual placement of the hoses is also critical to avoid noise being transmitted through the chassis. note the hose that runs across the front valance (presumably for cooling purposes)

Finally any new hoses you use have to be oil rated hoses. You can't use water hose as it will dissolve and/or swell in oil.

PS. note that the variable ratio of the steering boxes is reversed in the PS box. It doesn't do much but will change the driving feel somewhat beyond just the lack of effort needed when parking.

My 1970 Series 1 V8 has had Rover P6 power steering fitted & I don't think there were any engineering issues to overcome, apart from changing the wiper mechanism over to a series 2.

The feel of the steering is perhaps a little less 'sharp', but it transforms the car :). I have now collected parts to get a kit put on BOP as well now!
