a bit of hot wather and the cycling lemmings are all at it again!
why oh why would you pay for a cycling helmet and then go cycling at 10.00 at night around tree covered back roads and expect people to see you when you have no lights on!
????
dark clothes as well and been drinking
i met 8 last night in a mile of my house!
2 groups of 3 and 2 singles and if i'd whacked one off (where can i get bull bars?) i'd be done!
saturday saw the regular 'tour-de-backroads' middle aged lycra clad ignorant dickheads clog up my road again!
7 deep and all over the road!
these aren't nippers or idiots! so why are they so dangerously thoughtless and stupid!
grrrr, grrrr, grrrr ,grrrrr!

Every day i meet people on my way to work who drive badly, cut me up, overtake on blind bends all to get back behind the car they were previously following 5 seconds quicker....

Upshot is there are good and bad motorists and good and bad cyclists.

I was knocked off last year by someone who'didnt see me' in my flourescent top. I got a broken shoulder. She got an 80 pound fine.

Complain about bad drivers all you want but they can pilot any vehicle not just a bicycle....

the worst are those that overtake with inches to spare... If a cyclist can touch your vehicle as you overtake you're way too close.

....and cyclists squeeze through the narrowest of gaps sometimes holding onto cars to get through........

Good and bad motorists and cyclists just as you said.

I rest my case

Put a gate across it with a big padlock. That'll stop 'em. After all, if it's your road, you can do what you like, can't you.

What about ignoring red lights ?
These days with rechargeable batteries etc I can see no excuse for not having lights

You're right theres no excuse for that - I have a £200 headlight (Halogen with a big battery) and about 5 rears - 1 steady 4 flashing....

I have twin halogen front lights, one spot and one wide powered by a rechargeable sealed lead acid battery that fits in the bottle carrier. Great for cycling back from a night shift in pitch black :D

Always amazes me that people try cycling at night with less - unless you're only cycling in built up areas you cant see the pot holes etc that litter the roads these days...

It's funny really, but i'm pretty laid back in the car,i take everything in my stride, i expect cyclists to cross red lights, or riding with no lights in the country lanes, or the woman thats to busy yacking on here phone to look before she walks out into the road infront of you...... although i do get a little bit tetchy when i'm out on the Raptor and i get cut up by ignorant drivers

I will cross a red light on my cycle, normally with the pedestrians on the green man, slowly & giving them right of way. It avoids me getting caught up in the car race away from the lights when they do go green. Though if I can clearly see there is no traffic approaching then I'll cross beforehand too. I don't barrel across regardless as I have no desire to die but I will take advantage of an empty road despite the traffic lights while on a pushbike.
For the record I also think that road tax & registration numbers for bikes are a ridiculous idea put forward by jealous motorists stuck in a traffic jam & that there is no excuse for not having lights at night. You can get them from poundshops for flip-sake & batteries last ages with LED's.

I wouldn't support road tax, but would support reg numbers as they have in at least one other country that I'm aware of. That way, cyclists can be held to the same standards as motorists.

I ended up having to remove the bullbars on my Range Rover after being threatened with legal action a few years ago whilst driving into London. I'd pull up at the lights, and every idiot on a bike would hold onto them and happily scratch the side of my Rangie so they didn't have to put their feet on the deck.

I'd had enough one day with this one cyclist who gave me the fingers and proceeded to run his bike gloves (with watch on!!) along the edge of my bonnet, scratching it. When the lights went green, I made sure that no one else was around and floored it. Sent him flying onto the curb and took out his front wheel with my back tyre. Got reamed by the cop who had seen it from around the corner, but nothing further as the cyclist was as much at fault as me.

I love cycling, but I hate the arrogance of some of the cyclists and motorbike riders out there.

I have been a cyclist for a little over 30 years including a racing cyclist, for the past 10 years averaging 400 to 500km each week. I have seen too many motorists show little regard or respect for cyclists, and the occasional cyclist do likewise. I have never placed my hands upon a car whilst waiting at a set of lights, I have too much respect for other people's property, and I dare say that a cyclist that does just like any person who chooses to touch another person's car without being invited to do so is not showing repect for that person's property either.

Common sense is the key, and too many people today seem to display a distinct lack of any, be they a cyclist riding at night without lights, or a motorist driving in a less than safe manner near cyclists.

Cycling is a great way to lose weight and to stay healthy, and a perfect way to illustrate to someone just how incredibly unfit they really are. In Australia over 60% of adults are either overweight or obese and according the the Australian Medical Association that costs the country a staggering 21 Billion dollars each year,...yes $21,000,000,000...

Cycling is the world's second largest sport, only soccer is more popular, and the Tour de France is the world's largest annual sporting event, only the Olympic games and World Cup soccer attract a larger viewing audiance. Cycling in Europe is huge, with professional racing cyclists held in very high regard.

Sadly in Australia the attitude that many motorists have towards cyclists is similar to what would appear to be the case in the United Kingdom and also in the United States. I can only assume that this negativity is a combination of the minor popularity of the sport and a general misunderstanding of what is actually involved with cycling and why riders behave and dress as they do. Many people criticise cyclists based upon the latter, but this is largely down to both ignorance and jealousy. Subconsciously they know that they are not nearly as fit nor would they look anywhere near as good wearing the same apparel.

Cycling is a fantastic sport and a truly great way to stay fit, afterall what is there not to like.... :D

She doesn't look very happy and to reiterate what my Father told me, I will go jogging/cycling when I see one of them smiling.

I'm really pleasantly surprised how many P6 owners seem to also enjoy cycling :) Positivity from something that started negatively. I like that.

Chortle

"Chortle is a word found in old Beano comics from my youth which means to laugh under you breath. There are other words used to describe the same like 'Snigger,' or 'Titter.' I thought the latter my be just too ironic to use, so went for chortle instead 8)

ha!
yes i remember chortle!
never knew what it meant but i was only about 35 then!
the cycling thing isn't personal just sensible
i think its unsafe on our roads mostly for you can be the safest cyclist in the world but you meet little old granny who really shouldn't be driving and she runs you over whilst you're stopped at traffic lights adjusting your reflectives who's coming off worse?
for myself i don't fancy a wheelchair or worse when i can prevent that happening
so if you wish to cucle then by all means do so but accept the consequences
we all know most drivers are poor (although you never meet one???)
so its a risk you run.
so if you do cycle though please be safe and be seen
or try anyway!
as for it being a sport then sod off to a velodrome (is that the right word??) or a cycle track or tesco's car park!
not exactly a spectator sport !
watching the scenery change, but each to their own!
outside eastliegh (hants) train station they have half a wide pavement given to cyclists to keep them safe off the road but still some insist on being on the road!
i just don't understand??
why put yourself in danger??
