Floppy wing mirrors!

Does anyone know if there is a cure for floppy door mirrors. The ones on my car always started to point at the road after getting much above 60/70 and made checking behind a case of crouching down slightly in the seat. Not very safe I'm sure you'll agree.

Is there away to solve this problem or should I invest in new set? (Presuming they are available)

No doubt the retaining spring has lost some of it's power. Unless you can find one of the same type & tension as the original, it's difficult to cure. It's difficult anyway as we tried it with one of ours which broke. A strong enough spring was too strong to stretch to the anchor points & a spring which we could anchor did exactly what yours are doing. It was probably not done by hand when they were manufactured.
You'll always find suitable mirrors at an autojumble.

Sounds like it's not worth messing around trying to repair them then.

Do any of the suppliers do new wing mirrors or does anyone have decent pair the want to sell?

I'm looking for a tidy pair of Winguard mirrors aswell, although it seems a shame to drill holes in my latest P6, which only has a magnifying interior mirror fitted. S&G Walker couldn't help, I haven't tried Weekley or Wadhams yet, I'll post again shortly once I've called them.
If anybody does know where to obtain Winguard mirrors with good chrome do please post the details. Where does one get stronger springs from to prevent the mirrors sagging?
Try checking out what's behind you in a pair of door-mounted 'bullet' type mirrors, it entails a whole lot of squirming and slouching, but they don't half look nice, and as they don't extend past the side trims if you're confident you can slot the car through really tiny gaps!

Yes!.....I've bought a pair of 'Bullets' for our rally-ised S1 2000TC. I don't know whether to fit them on the doors or the wings yet. I've seen Rover literature with these which shows the passenger side (NADA?) one fitted to the Bonnet. They're a bit cheaper than the Winguard's too & better-looking though I'm not sure they'd suit a Series 2 as well as a 1.

Is that both sides or just the nearside?
I don't know if I'd like them mounted on the bonnet but it would certainly be different so I'll give it some thought. I'm painting the bonnet Matt black but keeping the rest Corsica so the bullets should look well in keeping along with the Revolutions. Incidently, I'm looking for another 8" Revolution as 'The Bruiser' only came with 4 & I haven't got a spare. If anyone has one kicking around then let me know. There were a couple on ebay last week but they were Up North & 'buyer collect' & as I'm down South that may have been a problem. Though I do get up to the Lymm Truckstop a couple of times a week normally through work.
