Hey,
Ok, I know this isn't to everyone's tastes and admittedly it's not something I would ever have considered doing back in the UK on anything other than a Mini due to the negative connotations ostentatious use of the union flag can sometimes have there (BNP minesterial transport anyone? ) but I had this fitted to Foosty today, and must say personally -shock horror probably to some I know-, I like it.......

Had it done by a company who specialise in promotional vehicle wraps that we've used for some other work and they have done a great job getting the vinyl wrap right in under the drain channels and wrapped right into the rear screen and under the front windscreen chrome. Only bit I am wishing i had done was to remove the roof mounted aerial so they could go under it rather than around but they have done a very neat job there too.

Went for their top of the range vinyl so lifetime is quoted at 5-7 years with the car parked outside so with it being garaged should last way longer, and if i decide I don't want it on there any more it peels off.

My roof could do with a respray so thought I would see how this worked out and how I liked it before deciding if i should go down the respray route, only time will tell but I'm certainly happy with it currently.

I did contemplate going with a Scottish flag on there for a bit in honour of my motherland rather than the cars, but thought that would be about as much of a stretch as sticking a British flag on a car assembled in NZ would be... Oh wait a minute. :)

What do you guys think?

Cheers,

Al

Hi Al

Blimey that's a bold move!

Not to my taste but it'll certainly make the car stand out from the crowd and it actually suits the overall look of your car. Well done for having the b4lls to go for it 8)

Hello Al,

I expect that your Rover is the only P6 on the planet to have a Union Jack roof. Very mini-esque...reminds me of "The Italian Job".

It is good to be an individual, so well done!... :D

Ron.

Hello Al,

I've got to say I dig it! :D Looks brilliant esp. from above and works well with your paint and wheels. From the side it strikes you in a way that might make me want to offset it a touch, say, by adding a little Union Jack to the rear of the rear wings - a bit TR6-like.

Cool, though 8)

For our overseas forum members the flag is more properly called the Union Flag not the Union Jack (although these days the terms are largely interchangeable). The flag first came about when James VI of Scotland came to the throne of England following the death of Elizabeth I and proclaimed himself king of Great Britain . King James wanted a flag that would represent his kingdom on his Royal Navy ships without offending English and Scottish sailors, so he merged the cross of St George with the Saltire to create the first Union Jack (Jack being the name given to flag flown at the head of a navy warship). The cross of St Patrick was added later but sits in a less prominent position than the Saltire due to Ireland joining the Union some 200 years after Scotland (that's why the white bits of the diagonals are of unequal thickness).

Here endeth the history lesson 8)

erm... that's certainly striking

Very nice though.

I don't anyone would think the use of the Union Flag on an old British car would be linked to the BNP, but you can never tell these days.

Richard

I like it! I take it given that you've had the roof vinyled that you've already sorted the trouble you had with the lower front ball joints. Glad to see you're back on the road with your P6. I have actually seen this treatment before, I think it was on a yellow (or might've been turquoise, can't remember exactly) Australian P6 which had a pair of long NADA scoops on it's bonnet and one of Scotts Old Auto Rubber's front spoilers. Check the Australian Rover Owners Club website and the recent event gallerys. A mate of mine her in Berlin has a Jag XJS completely painted in a Union Jack (he calls it his Shaguar, of course, a la Mike Myers), a real head-turner!

Looks great - especially with the blue body and black rims .
You will start a trend and probably turn on a new generation of P6 admirers.
Our own lovely Kiwi flag has been stolen by the Ozzies and bastardized so wouldnt look at all at home on a car roof
Gerald

Well done! Looks very smart, and yes reminds me of the Italian Job as well :) It suits it with the cars colour,
and why not be different?. There are so many "standard" cars out there. Get's my approval :D

hahaha! I think it's a totally brilliant move, and it really works well with the colours of the car and the wheels.

Cool! And it certainly has more right to wear that flag than all those new Minis you see with it.
There used to be an immaculate black SD1 (2l auto  ) with the flag on the roof in Auckland. Don't know what became of it.
