fronnt sidelight/indicator

ok on each side of the car is three wires. the indicator has two connectors and the sidelight has one. which wire goes where and is it a common earth through the bulb holders or does it get the earth through the body?

many thanks

One of the three wires is an earth. The other two are for the indicator and sidelight. You can't rely on it earthing through the body of the lamp because the retaining screws screw into plastic clips.

ok I have narrowed it down to the wire from the fuse box to the light its self. 12 volts at the fuse. 0.15 at the other end of the wire. obviously a break somewhere or some issue with the wire. the only slightly strange thing is if I switch the sidelights off. I get slightly over 0.2v at the wire.

is there something weird with the electrics that all the bulbs have to be present and correct for it all to work//

ok what is the best way of replacing a wire as they r all wrapped up together. if it was just one wire I could see the point in just taping em to the existing loom however it looks like im going to have to replace quite a few wires.

also how does one remove the appropriate wire from the fuse box? do they just pull out?
many thanks coop

If you're getting a voltage drop between the fuse box and the light unit then have you checked the switch?

12 volts at switch and checks out with continuity. plus according to my wiring diagram the fuse is between the switch and the bulb. obviously I will run a test wire b4 doing anything permanent just wanted to know the proper way of doing it.

So that would make everything up to and including the switch on an unfused supply then?

yes it didn't make any sense to me either. however that's the way it is wired and that is the way it is shown in my diagram. I did check the switch was b4 the fuse by operating it with a volt meter on the fuse contacts and with the lights switched on,,,, voltage... with em switched off no voltage. only thing between the battery and the switch is the ammeter.

that's a good point I haven't tried the left hand side as the wing isn't on yet. I guess if the other sidelight doesn't work either it cant be just a single wire.

I also assume it is normal for the side lights to be on at the same time as the headlights.

im off to wins international tomorrow I will get all the bulbs and hook everything up tomorrow. if there r lots of issues with the electrics I might get an auto electrition depending on cost

ok tried a light unit on the other side got voltage there but very poor earth and bulb didn't illuminate. rear number plate light works though. so the switch must be ok.

Numberplate lights but no tail lights?

I think I'd go back to the fusebox and check the connections on the fused side of the side/tail light fuse, as the fuse boxes are a known weak point.
