Hi, I'm sorry it's not quite as simple as that. The wire is hardwired to the fuse contacts, if you
pull out the wire you pull out the shaped contact. There is one of these either side of the fuse
which is pushed onto it by the plastic of the fuse box. If you have bad contact it is a case of
cleaning them where the fuse is. Incidently there are two fuse lengths 30mm and 32mm make
sure you have the longer ones because the short ones don't give full contact and can overheat
with the current, plus the plastic of the fuse box has a low melting point thus reducing the
pressure of the contacts on the fuse and making the situation worse. If not noticed in time it
can lead to complete meltdown.

I am 99% sure its the wire that is at fault. If I put my multi meter on ohms and a fly wire on the lamp end of the wire and connect the meter on the fuse end of the wire and the fly wire I get an open circuit. the only way I can prove this is the issue is by running another length of wire which obviously I cant do because I cant connect it to the fuse with out removing the existing wire.

the only other way round this which is a real bodge but would get me through an mot so I could take it to an auto electrician is put a double connector on the left hand sidelight wire and run it across to the right hand side but I really don't want to do this as its a real bodge.

next silly question is the cable either the connector im looking for on the drivers side or the passenger side

ok update time. I got my neighbour to hold a wire on the end of the fuse while I held the wires onto the lamp terminals full brightness on both side and parking light at the front so it is definitely the wire. Just need to disconnect the original one so I can run a new wire to the front and back.

many thanks

ok final update. I ran a wire from the left to the right sidelight and it all works, amazingly the rear right hand sidelight works on its own accord (it wasn't working yesterday) I will have a good look at that.

many thanks for everyone's input

Hi, what do you mean "works on it's own accord"? Does it work with the lights off?
Is the light switch in the 'park' position? Does it work with the ignition off or on?
Is the number plate light on? Has it got a towbar?

Colin

I ment it started to work on its own accord. it wasn't working yesterday (99..9% sure) then today it was. I was just testing my front light fix and noticed the back was working.

it works with the switch in the sidelight position and the park position. Yes there is a towbar fitted however the wireing is in a heap in the boot. I am going to tidy it up for the mot as apparently they wont check the towbar electrics.

many thanks

I think if it has a socket and ball fitted they check the function of the socket*. If it's not wired up I'd remove the socket completely. (And the ball as well probably, then there's no doubts).

*Just had a look and they don't check the function of a 7 pin socket, but they do check the security of its wiring, so I'd still remove it.

just a quick question... how many of the foam inserts should there be per light. some of the lights have foam behind the lamp and some have it on the front of the lamp around the bulbs which is right?
many thanks
