where do i get a decent set of front brake discs from for my 1970 v8??
nothing listed in my local factors (all 4 of them!)
had a set skimmed and now one is undersized!
got a 2nd hand set and they are no good, not worth a skim!
was told by a company that the new ones being manufactured have problems and aren't worth buying.
until they get good ones available do i fit an undersize one?
do i fit the crap 2nd hand ones?
do i just buy an anchor?
answers please

Hello Jules,

By how much is it undersize? If it is only a few thou, I don't really see that being a problem.

New ones I understand are available from J R. Wadhams. I have not seen one, so I am not in a position to comment on quality, although I have purchased one of their rear discs and have fitted it....no problems at all. Excellent quality.

Ron.

I put a set on my car 2 years ago from either Wadhams or Ian W, they fitted fine and spot on with a dial gauge

apparantly at this moment in time the quality of front discs is pretty bad.
that was from the first rover parts dealer i tried (can't remember who?) and jim Brown from ely/red hat rovers.
so i'm a bit stuffed really.
never mind, i'll play with another one!
actually i'm gonna fit the skimmed set, its only to get it through an mot, i'm not off on the grand tour or anything.

Please can someone confirm whether the front discs for the 2200 & V8 the same? I have a good set of 2200's but want a V8 set. :? I suppose I can wait until I take them off & compare, but I'm currently on with the rears.

(I understand that the back ones are the same, though I will get the originals skimmed as they're just a bit pitted & scored).

4 cylinder front discs are different, sadly.

As I understand the situation at the moment V8 discs are unavailable, and decent sets are going for three figure sums. Ian Wilson had some re-manufactured but was let down by the manufacturers in terms of quality.

I don't know what Wadhams sell, or even if they have any stock. It's not a good situation for V8 owners at the moment.

4 cylinder front discs are in relatively good supply and go for about £50-£60 a go. Ian Wilson does have stocks, I believe.

Thanks Nick

Looks like I'm going to get them skimmed then. None are really bad - just a bit of pitting & scoring. The car has been standing a while.

Now to find a precision engineer in the wilds of East Yorkshire!

Just picked up my skimmed rear discs. They're excellent! :D

Cost was £35 for the pair, but they are original discs (bevelled edge) so should last indefinately now that the car will be getting some use. I'll get the fronts done when I get them off.

Thanks all for your help.
