Front Crankshaft oil seal conversion

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year.

I am in the process of replacing the cam and might as well replace the crank oil seal while to timing cover is off. I have a bottom end gasket set from Wins that has the later seal in it, but mine is the rope type.

Does anyone have the instructions to convert from rope to rubber? I can't find anything on line and dont really want to butcher the old one out.

AFAIK, you have to get the timing cover machined to take the oil seal.
No you don't. The new seal fits in the old retainer. It's literally a no brainer upgrade if you ever remove the timing cover.

You of course need to machine the block to fit the crankcase rear oil seal but not the front on the timing cover.

Ah yes, it's indeed the rear l'm thinking of.

I did mine when I had the front cover off to upgrade the oil pump.
Was an easy swap from rope to rubber.
