Just come to fitting a front bearing to my p6 as had a lot of a grubble on the way from the mot station but just need a little advice.
I have taken all the hub easy job got the tapered roller bearing out (not got new ones yet) but do i have to get the other half of the taper out of the hub?
As all the bearings in the pictures i have looked at look flat not tapered.
Any advice would be greatfully recieved once again

Cheers
Richard

If you mean the tracks, if you clean out the hub of grease you'll see small notches in the hub casting opposite to each other, two on each side, which allow just enough access to use a pin punch from the opposite side of the hub to knock the track out. Make sure you do it evenly.

Get your trusty mig welder and run a bead around the inside of the cup.
As it cools it will contract and the cup should be free to remove by hand
or with minimal persuasion.
DON'T weld the cup to the hub.......

Used to use that trick on BMC 1100 radius arm bearings.

:D Sounds like another top tip which I shall try to remember. As well as the heat from the MIG, I suppose an added advantage is you get some nice blobs of weld to which a pin and big hammer can be applied to help ease the offending part out. I remember a bloke I knew who started his career in the Glasgow ship yards. He always referred to a 4lb club hammer as a precision tool :!:
