Fuel Problems

I'm not sure if anyone can help but my P6 3500auto has been garaged for 5 years and I'm now getting her back on the road.

I used to have a supplier of 4star but not anymore, whats the latest with the unleaded? Are there any additives that can be put in?

Also I currently have a problem with the reserve tap which is stuck on( if I close it there is a petrol leak) until I repair this how far can I get on the resevre and do I need to keep the tank topped right up?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd repair the reserve tap first - it's only an "O" ring
You'll be OK on unleaded while you get it running and can use an additive when you start driving it hard

Hello Chuck,

Both the main and reserve use the same tank for supply, with the only difference being the height with which their respective feed pipes extend into the tank. So having the reserve knob pulled out and thereby drawing fuel from the reserve outlet on the tank in fact means that you have access essentially to the full 68 litres of tank capacity at all times. So no need to keep topping up, just drive the car as if this problem did not exist. The 'O' ring within the fuel reserve is a major joy to change, not difficult in itself, but access to the tap is somewhat confined. So much easier if you have need to remove the engine first...

Thanks for all the advice. Repaired the o-ring in the end and used unleaded fuel with an additive. She's running well now and I used her for my wedding.

Thanks again

Chuck
