Guys - I've a had a periodic problem where I'm getting this fibreglass type whispy material - almost like a cockoon for a moth or something - working it's way from the direction of the tank and getting stuck just before my electric fuel pump causing at best a spluttering under load and at worst complete breakdown. My local garage removed a piece about an inch long and half inch wide about 6 months ago and everything was fine until I had to get the AA out last week and they removed some more!
So - does anyone have any idea where it might be originating and secondly can anyone recommend a good filter to fit before it gets to the pump? It was suggested it's been at the bottom of the tank since when maybe someone stuck a rag in place of the filler cap or maybe the lining of the tank is deteriorating, but I've had the car 8 years and run it very low on many occasions and nothing like this has ever happened.
Cheers,
Steve.
