Fuse box getting hot

Well, it's getting clearer

The Kenlowe electric fan is spliced (using one of those little blue scotchblok things) into the radio pick up point.

I have to assume that it did something to the radio reception, so the radio feed has been cut and wired into the map light instead.

I haven't found where the fuel pump is wired into yet, still looking. Found it - it is wired into the back of the heated rear screen switch.

New fuse box is in now though, so nearly there LOL 8)

There is a wire scotchblocked into the igniton feed wire which goes to fuse 19.20. This goes to the power amp. There is another wire scotchblocked into this wire, which goes to the + side of the coil - so 12V feed there.

The normal (ballast resisted) wire to the + side of the coil has been cut off and taped up.

BINGO! that should be most of your problems sorted now & answers the rev. counter question I would think 8)
I bought a Firenza rally car years ago which was plagued with problems, bad starting, burning smells & the headlights would turn themselves off usually at high speed on the darkest most dangerous roads  & behind the dash was Scotchlok City so I put my hand up the back & ripped the lot out & made a complete new wiring harness & what a difference 8)

I hope that didn't sound like I was saying that's what you should do

Well it did rather - only kidding :D

The scotchblock connecting the Kenlowe was almost full of a greeny blue substance which looked like the goo you get around badly maintained battery terminals. I hate those scotchblocks, so will be removing all of them

Job is still not finished as I ordered a couple of relays and a heavy duty connector, and they haven't arived yet. Serves me right for ordering things off of ebay.

The connetions to the back of the wiper switch are all in their correct places, so will have to look into the strange operating elsewhere.

Haven't looked into the Tacho yet. I will be doing so after speaking to RPI about the coil feed power. I am hoping that sorting out the wiring to the coil and power amp might just correct it.

I also have to dewire and remove the front fog lights because they spoil the look of the car. :)

Well I reckon that should sort it but who knows there could be another fault lurking

They do a bit if it was my car I'd replace them with a pair of Lucas Square 8s but it's not so I'll leave that up to you

All back together and working. 8)

I pulled the tape off the white igniton fed feed to the fuse box and found that a wire had been wrapped around the bared core and soldered on. This was the feed to the power amp. A separate wire was scotch blocked onto this wire and this was now the feed to the coil. The feed to the amp was left alone as although it is a bit Heath Robonson, it's certainly solid enough. I took the sctoch block off (which was corroded inside), and fitted the coil feed to the back of the fuse box where the original coil feed wire went. The original went through a ballast resistor in the wiring loom so I couldn't use that one, as this coil needs a 12V supply. Result - engine is smoother and more responsive. That strange misfire has gone. 8)

I removed the fuel pump feed from the back of the heated screen switch and wired it into a relay in the boot. I then took a new wire from the back of the screen switch and used it to fire the relay. I don't know how much power a facet red top uses but I was not happy running the full power from the back of the heated rear screen switch, so now there is only 150 milliamps for the relay. The wiring was confusing though as it was wired differently than my wiring diagram. The feed in was correct but the feed out to the screen, was wired to the earth for the warning light, and visa versa. I wonder if this was the cause of the melt down :?:

I have wired the main feed for fuse 21.22 into a junction box and taken a feed to fuse 3.4 directly from this instead of the original confaluted (is that how you spell that?) way. Another wire from the junction box to the kenlowe fan instead of feeding it from the radio pick up, and another to fuse 21.22.

Radio is where it should be and now sounds better with less interference. :D :D

Bravo! Hopefully that's fixed for keeps. Just your brain that needs cooling down now! Whoever said classic cars were boring?

Just been out in the car having a play with one of these FM transmiters.

Turned the igniton to auxillary to use the radio and the fuel pump also came on!!!

D'oh!
