Hi all.
Just thought I would let you know that I have all but secured a deal on a 1970 P6 that was restored and then locked away in 1993!
Been after it for a while!
Will tell you more later this week as I take some pics as it was found, and get it to my place!
All I will say is its a very early S2 in corsica blue.
WATCH THIS SPACE!!! :)

Well done...look forward to the pics!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

I just know I cant squeeze 3 in there! :(
Never mind, the V8 was outside for years,so once the carports rebuilt b4 winter,it wont be too bad!!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

While I think about it???
Has anyone got a spare 1ltr+ of Corsica blue celly paint they dont need anymore?
The bonnet is the only panel that could benefit with repainting, not 100% critical, but as the alloy has reacted over the years its been locked away, maybe worth doing.

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

Sounds exciting!

A lack of storage space is a problem for me too :D

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

The emergance into daylight from its current cozy resting place and some piccys this weekend if it doesnt rain! :D

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

Hi all.
Spent a couple of hours at the car today to free off the wheels and give it another good look over, and take a few piccys.

Private plate put on at 1st registration on 1/1/71,"to be confirmed as this is a DVLA default", is still with it is; CON 591
All windows, light lenses and headlights etched with reg no!
MORE PICCYS AT!!== http://s107.photobucket.com/albums/m296 ... over%20P6/

Was well restored between 91-93 before being locked away in a dry garage in 1993.
The 2nd owner kept a log of miles done, fuel + oil bought, jobs done and costs etc from 1983-1993 covering 24k miles in that time.
Its 1st owner, his uncle, did 40k miles from 1970-1983 then left it to him when he passed away.
I fingersize rust hole found on the d/s rear sill end,"A rubber grommet will hopefully sort that!"
Lots of cobwebs, minor surface rust from the inevitable condensation.
Interior is great, its got that perfect old car smell,no damp or mustiness.
Engine and box look really clean,as do under all the arches.
No obvious rust on any painted panels, all rubber seals original and good!
And with a good clean and polish should come up very well indeed!
I am going to bring it back the 1st week of Aug as I have a week of to spend gently coaxing it back to life!
It also comes with a pallet load of spares which I have yet to look at,but is supposed to include seats and a new exhaust + lights, service items.
Whats it cost?
Well, ive paid/agreed a price for it,at least I will when I collect it "I can still walk away".
The owner is a well know local millionaire businessman, who just will not haggle!
Ive known him since I was kid going into his hardware store for my maggots and fishing tackle.
He has know that I am into classic cars, and when I went to his shop in my rover was when I found out about it!"I remembered the car as it used to belong to a local well know copper sgt I knew!"
He has a small collection of classics all bought as investments.
He sold the Healey 100/4 that was fully restored then stored for 20 yrs last year for a 4k profit.
He bought the P6 in 1993 off the 2nd owner for exactly the same as ive got it for,he said that I was the only one he was going to sell it to!!
He had it mot'd,taxed it,did 60ish miles and then locked it up!
He was just waiting for me to agree to his price!
The reg numbers easily worth the buying price alone, will investigate this later.
Anyway, time for eats and a relax.
Am VERY tempted to go and try to start it tomorrow,so I have put both spare batts on charge, had a gall of oil warming up in the sun,and an oil filter, water and fresh fuel at the ready.
Wil see what tomorrow brings!
Dave

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

Don't make it TOO good before you get it off him, the price might go up !!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find coming soon.

HeHe!!
When I started the haggling process,he said that he doesn't come down he goes up,so the more I try to haggle the more it goes up!
Actually, his wife said a over year ago that if he was to die before I agree to buy it,I can have it "he is in his 80's",so morbidly,if he pops off before we do the deal, its mine for free!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

Well I knew I couldnt resist it!
So I went over to try and get it running! :|
As it turned out,it was really easy! :)
New plugs, fresh fuel, bit of oil into the bores then turned it over plenty to get the oil pressure up "was gonna change oil but sump plug is a swine",and the oil didnt look too bad! :|
Bit of a prime, fuel into bores and carb and it started almost 1st cough, and I must say it runs REAL SWEET!!! Not a rattle or a tappet,or a rumble! WELL HAPPY! :D
Found out on the info that the g.box was overhauled at 58k miles.
So drove it out into daylight for the 1st time in almost 17yrs,went to take some more pics, and forgot to bring the camera!!
Only 4 real problems,,the brake master is knackered,"think ive got one",slight blow from exh-manifold joint,"easy fix",which got better as it warmed up,pretty sure the thermostat is stuck shut,"no probs there",and the hazzards dont work!
Everything else seems to work as it should!
Apart from a minor bit of welding, fit the new tyres,it should fly through an MOT!
Next job will be bringing it home and that will be the 1st week of Aug on my hol!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

Well done Dave, looks like a great find!

I'm a little alarmed you may have met your match on the haggling front though...what's the world coming to?

Are you planning on it being a keeper? Or selling on?

Cheers,

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

I did my best on the haggling, but ive known him for years, and deep down I knew he wouldnt budge, but had to try!!
Its one of those regards its value!!
He knows!!,,I know!!, he knows I know!!,I know he knows I know!!, etc!!
Once its home, and I can give it a real going over when its up on the ramp,I will see!
Currently I am planning to get it mot'd,add it to my multicar insurance policy, and tax it.
Then use it for a while to iron out any gremlins, and look into its history and see about selling the reg number!
I am also making further enquiries into the reg number that I want,so with luck I will sell & buy at about the same time!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

That is a nice birthday present to yourself .
Is the auto box OK after standing all that time ?

""That is a nice birthday present to yourself .""
:D
I am the only one that buys me prezzies!!
But at least I get what I want! :D

""Is the auto box OK after standing all that time?""

It was subject to a £300 overhaul in 1992 at about 58k miles, thats about 1 yr before it was laid up,so its done 6k miles,.it selects fine, oil is good, but as for driving it,I hope its ok,as I cant drive it on road at present.
I could actually drive it slowly on the V quiet back road by the house its currently at,but the only means of stopping is the handbrake"!

In my experience the gearboxes are pretty resiliant to long lay-offs. HUC stood about for years before I got her and there have been no problems (once we sorted the major league blown drive plate!)

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

True, the BW35 in the V8 had been stood for almost 20 yrs,and its sweet.
The 65's seem more problematic!
Suspect this one probably had clutches and bands done!
There is more paperwork/history with it,bills etc, just the guy has to find them!

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

Hi Richard.

Hope you are well?

The pics and the link in my earlier post are the only ones at the moment.
I am on hol for 9 days from this fri,and am going to be picking it up asap, and he will deliver the pallet of parts with his companies truck as well.
Soon as there is more info and more pics I will update!

Cheers Dave

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

If you look at picture 37 of you car, I just spotted something strange. The bonnet lining has the imprints of the four holes found on the lining of the 3500S NADA cars, one large central one for the air intake, one either side for venting and a small one at the front for the bonnet interior light. I have attached a picture to show what I mean.

Re: A New Toy!!! P6 garage find!!! It runs real SWEET!

Well spotted!!
I wondered what they were?
Probably the liners were pre made and then trimmed out to fit whatever car they were going on.
Or, as this car has had some resto over the years, some parts off a NADA were used,as it is fitted with a 3500 servo as well!.
There were 1 or 2 specialists in my area at the time to do repairs and get s/h parts from!
