Hi when I sit in my p6 2200 there is a creaking /clunk ? from the rear end,has anyone experienced this before?I am thinking on the lines of shockers or springs would I be on the right track? Thanks gary.
 
Mine does the same when I push down on the rear end, Strangely you can feel it on the hubcaps, I wondered if it's stiff UJ's ?
 
The only other thing it could be is the de-dion tube creaking as it moves in and out. (compressing the suspension causes the rear track to increase). Might explain why you can feel the vibration through the hubs.

I've noticed the same noise on my P6's as well. It may be nothing to worry about if it's correctly lubricated and just a result of a bit of 'stiction' in the bearing surfaces.
 
I'd never considered that as mine has a De Dion tube with a filler and it's full of oil ( or it was last time I looked)
Mine needs a rear end rebuild , some of the bushes look a bit worn
Could it be the hubcaps flexing and the spring clips moving on the wheel rims ?

All the P6's I've owned (5) have all made this creaking noise, when bounced - I think it is the de dion tube & the suspension moving to reflect the change in the track. I am sure that my Dad's 2000 TC did not make this noise when he had the car (3 years old in 1970) so it could be an age related thing.

Have you noticed when you follow a P6 a wiggle of its tail - quite sexy really!

Hi gary yes noticed the wiggle,I renewed the rear bushes on my last two rovers and there was no clunking,looks like another rear end re-bush! cheers gary.
 
Mine has a noise that sounds like it comes from the rear, I tracked it down to a shot snub ruber on the gear box and a worn rear cross member mount, this makes the drive train move about and rub the exhaust, its still on my list of things to do, so at the moment I just turn the radio up :blues:
 
Had a creak and clunk from the back end of my 2000, turned out the spare wheel holder in the boot was not done up tight enough!
Somtimes the simple answers could be the best????
