I have a spare box and am try to find out what it is from and what the ratios are.

The serial number stamped on it is 43651195 c. does the gear box numbers match the engine numbers?

Colin

Hello Colin,
according to James Taylor's book numbers beginning 436 ... are 2000SC & TC Mk 11, 2200SC & TC.
The next five numbers are the serial number and the final letter for important design modifications.
Hope this helps.
Regards, John.

Hello John,

I am rebuilding an engine for my car and whilst it is out I am going to sort out the iffy layshaft on my own box.

if this spare box was the same spec I would have had the gear box guy give it the once over.

Does the book tell you what the letters are? I take it that an sc has different ratios to a TC.

Colin

Hello Colin,
No, sadly, the mod. letters are not elaborated on.
SC and TC models appear to have the same ratios in gearbox.
Any difference must be in final drive between 2000 and 2200 models as top gear ratios are 19.5 mph/1000 rpm for 2000 and 19.7 mph/100 rpm for 2200 models.
Final drive numbers begin 401.... with a T prefix for TC models and 2200 begin 471... total nine digits.
Hope this helps.
Regards, John.
