Just got the P6 back from its MOT The good news was no advisories. Took the car for a run and at an uphill T junction couldn't get into 1st or 2nd. Got into 3rd and was able to move , then double declutched and it went into 2nd. Drove for several miles then had to stop at a crossing. Again I couldn't get into 1st or 2nd. Eventually was able to move the car. It seems an intermittent fault but the gear selection is not as crisp as usual. Any suggestions please.

What's the car? 4-pot, or V8 S?

Is the gear lever floppy? How much pressure is there on the clutch pedal? If you look underneath at the side of the gearbox, with someone else pushing the pedal up and down, can you see movement on the shaft going into the clutch slave cylinder?

The car is a 2000sc. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the clutch.

Is the gearshift sloppy now? It sounds like the plastic end of the shifter may of fallen off.

Problem solved. Plastic bush had disintegrated on selector and been replaced with a brass one. Can now change gear and back on the road.
