Gear teeth

This weekend me and my dad went mad and decided that as the engine, engine bay and gearbox were covered in so much rubbish and needed a good clean and the clutch needed unseizing we pulled out the v8 lump and the gearbox. when it came to undoing the gearbox mounts, we moved it a bit and a tooth off one of the gears dropped out the bottom of the box. if just one tooth on one of the gears is broken, whats going to be the effects when being driven like it? will it work? or is it just not going to work meaning we are going to need to get another gearbox and change either the cog of the whole box?

cheers to anyone who can help

If they lose teeth, (which they do on a regular basis on the "S" box) they can jam themselves up to the point where the car won't move forward or backwards. This is usually when the teeth strip off 1st gear on the laygear, which really renders the box scrap. Personally, as it's out already, I'd dismantle it enough to have a look-see.
