Gearbox Dipstick

Hi all,

The gearbox dipstick is missing on my neighbour's '70 3500. I gave him a loan of the dipstick off a '73 3500 but it appears to be different. I'm guessing (I'm not that that well up on my autos) that the '73 car has a BW 65, dipstick on the drivers side as mentioned on another post. Was just wondering if someone could give me the measurements from the top of the tube to the high and low marks if possible please.

Thanks,
Dave

Dipstick on the driver's side (RHD) is a BW35. There are various lengths and types of dipstick and tube, solid tube, and flexible tube. The solid tube dipstick lengths are in the WM, the dipsticks having a larger, white, top, and the flexible tube dipstick has a smaller top (generally red).

Thanks Harvey. Just spoke to him, I misunderstood slightly. He has the dipstick but the end is broken off. Will measure it and see what I can find out.
Regards
Dave

This of course begs the question "Where the hell is the broken bit?".

Luckily the sump was removed shortly after he bought the car and the mechanic has confirmed that he retrieved the piece (basically the flat piece with the markings). Is it safe to assume that this part would be the same length on the different dipsticks? The spare dipstick is far longer so we matched up the shorted one off his car and marked it with tape. However, it doesn't seem to want to go all the way down. Must take another look tomorrow.

Regards,
Dave

Probably.

Maybe it's so long it's hitting the sump.
