It's the Fourth - a day off, a few drinks and a celebration all round.

Tomorrow will see the resumption of being English, today I will celebrate with my adopted countrymen...

The Fourth is well and truly done, but I thought I would post a few pics from my neighborhood to give you an idea of what goes on. The part of Orange County that I live in allows fireworks, most of the adjoining cities do not. Here is a picture from the city of Cypress, where fireworks are illegal - it's less than a 1/2 mile from my house.

In my neighbourhood everyone has something going on - there are usually a load of parties as people come from neighbouring communities because of the fireworks.

There is always a giant bike parade - it's unofficial, but everyone knows about it and the local police show up to close off the intersections - they even turn a blind eye to drinking in public and riding motorcycles without a helmet.

Although fireworks are legal, most of the better ones are banned. There is a $1000 fine if you are caught, as my neighbour across the street knows all too well - the cops are out in rented cars on the 4th - all the better to catch you with...

The legal fireworks are a bit lame, but everyone else does, so why not...
Of course, anything that's illegal is naturally much much better...

If the Americans are good at anything it's celebrating. They sure do throw a good party :D

Great pics and a wee insight into small town USA :D

Great photos, we always hear such bad press about the states, the average UK citizen probably thinks it's all drug dealers and drive by shootings, day in day out.

Interesting on the Firework laws, we could do with much stricter control here, it's strange we only used to have them on bonfire night, but now you see them pretty much every weekend. I guess your ban is to do with fire safety ?, whereas we just find the damn annoying !
