you lower the compression ratio. If you have a 10.5:1 engine this helps with running on modern petrol.

Don't forget to leave the outer row of bolts at a light setting (e.g. 20 lb/ft) The other bolts settings are on here somewhere... or in the v8 engine manual which i have somewhere if nobody knows the figures without looking.

Andy's car is a late model 3500S so it will already have lower compression pistons than the early cars so it's possibly not advisable to lower it any more.

If that's the case composites would lower the cr to about 8.65:1, which as you point out, would be pretty low.
 
to add my heads are beeing skimmed -20 thou in this case would composites retain original compression ratio--andy

I can't remember the exact amount that needs to be skimmed off to retain the cr, but that will certainly help.
