I am a little confused by my headlights, and not sure how they should function. S2 V8 '73.

Before changing headlamp units my outer dipped beams (sealed beam) went out when i went on to full beam which illuminated just the inners. Now after changing to new units ( LHD not sealed beam) the inners do not function at all but the outers do both dipped and main. Nothing else been changed. I have also ready that others have all 4 lights functioning on main beams.

How should they work?

The outers only should be on when headlamps are dipped, then on main beam the outers should change filaments and the inners should come on, so you have all 4 illuminated.
 
Hi you should have dipped headlights on the outside on their own. then main beam on all 4. There should be three wires for the outer lights and 2 for the inner. as your outer main beam work I would make sure that the inners haven't blown a bulb or fuse (just check with a multi meter) and that the wiring is connected properly.
