I could be wrong however :)

Rest easy, you're not wrong...

There should be a clip on the dipstick tube that bolts into the top of that head bolt, and holds the tube into the block.

Nice to see a car capable of being supported on axle stands in the way it was intended.

thats great, i had no idea where it went, now i can put the head studs in.

another questions is how do i identifly my cam

the cam is cwc k1 followed by 1358397 stamped on the cam shaft

also i am looking for an alternator and am wanting to identify what i originally had as it was missing from the car im am wanting to know if it can be identified by the plug so i can get one ordered would be great

great we are part way there, i was wondering if the acr alternator that was fitted factory was internall reg or external reg. and the acr number was it a acr17 or acr18n or another number that i dont know about?

thanks craig

G'day and welcome, was your car on gumtree a while ago, I saw one with the same mis-match of alloy wheels??
I got my new alternator (18acr) from Deerings auto electrics (or try covs), you will find on the new latest ones that the plug will fit ok but the brown separate wire that bolts to a terminal will not be needed so it can be taped up and put out of the way as it is live from the battery. It is the voltage sensing cable from the battery and is not needed on the latest alternators. I think mine was around the $300 mark.
Regards,
Scott

Actually, the brown wire fits on a spade terminal if I remember now, not on a stud terminal.
And the brand supplied by Deerings is; OEX and the part number on the alternator is LXA203 KBR

Thought I recognised it, also while your engine is at that stage of assembly, check the right lower thread in the block for the long timing cover bolt. The thread in the block can break through into the water jacket so if this is the case you best apply some sealant to this bolt thread in case it leaks from there. the threads in the block of the other three long bolts are nowhere near the water jacket, just the lower right one. I made some studs up to suit instead of the long bolts.
I'm not up to speed with camshaft markings, I can check the numbers on my old 3.5 cam see if they are the same, I got a new cam from camtech cams from eastern states, they have a website.
