Welcome gibo

Nice car, same year as mine, also has the same Raydot fogs that mine had until recently when i fitted Lucas Square 8s (one of the Raydot mounting brackets broke :( )

Enjoy your Rover

Dave

Cheers!

I've used it this weekend to visit the parents and all seems to be good...slowly noticing a few little things that need some attention, but nothing too massive yet.

Welcome on board Gibo.

One thing to be aware of:

You say... that just a few little things need your attention, well...do not be too confident!

I thought the same about my car. "She's perfect, all runs OK and I can boast when I meet some other classic nuts events here in Spain.

Five days ago the brakes master cylinder blown up. She's leaking brake fluid like a waterfall, so not perfect at all! And bear in mind that in England it is relatively easy to find spares, not here.

Fortunately I have found a new brakes pump through Windsandco and I will have it here by next week by post. I hope to take the car out for a drive next weekend.

By the way, do you have any relation with Gibraltar? I make the query due to your nickname. The fact is that I know a lot of people down there; good beer-boozers!!

Lots of fun there when I was younger. The problem is that I can barely remember something!!

Regards

Hello!

Sorry for the delayed reply, it's been a rather busy few weeks!

No Shazzbat, Gibo is in relation to my surname, not Gibraltar, although I wish it was!!

Unfortunately, PHM has thrown a wobbly and dumped its ATF all over the garage floor (and most of Worcestershire by the looks), I've started a thread in the "Gearbox" section! :?

Is PHM a well known car, or was a previous owner on here?

Hello Gibo,

This is a great place with lots of nice people,..hope you enjoy it here... :D

Can I ask please,...the building outside of which your lovely Rover is parked,....where abouts is it and what is it used for? Is it empty?

Ron.

Thanks, I'm a big fan of classic car forums, they're a valuable resource for owners!

The building is an old empty catholic school, just off Hagley Road in Birmingham. It is situated on private land, so there is no access for the public.

That is a truly fantastic looking motor photographed in a truly splendid location... Classic car + classic location = un-rivalled cool...!!! Here's my brute in a suitably period location...

I wish you all the best with your motor and I do hope it's going to get used as regularly as possible as that is the best thing for these old motors, leaving them standing for weeks on end can sometimes do more harm than good... Enjoy your Rover, it is a glorious piece of machinery...!

It must have healthy rear springs as there's a good amount of tyre visible below the wheelarch - mine is well down on it's springs

Hi gibo,
a lovely looking car in a cracking pic, you get a photography gold star from me. Just so you know your car isn't throwing faults (ATF leak) at you, it's just it's way of introducing itself. I am more familiar with what my TC looks like from underneath than I am looking at the shiny side, be careful you don't forget what the "top bit" looks like as it can cause much embarrassment when in multi-storey car parks looking for your car, the law takes a dim view of strange men crawling around car parks too. :)
Enjoy your car and the forum, it's a very friendly and useful bunch we have on here. Hope to see you at a show or two in times to come. In the meantime keep taking those great pics.

Thanks all!

I didn't buy a 37 year old car and expect it to be 100% reliable/maintenence free, so the gearbox fault isn't the end of the world at all really (if anything, a reason for buying another classic was to be able to tinker with things again!) , I just need to find the motivation to go and sort it out. My garage is P6 sized, and nothing more, so while this rubbish weather continues, it'll have to wait. I do love driving it though and the compliments you receive every time you take it out makes it so worth while!

Well, it is about time for a quick update on PHM.

The gearbox problem turned out to be a leaking front pump seal. It went back and for to the garage a few times (in Westbury!) until they diagnosed the fault, so it's now all dry. Unfortunately, the kickdown now isn't working. I'm hoping this can be put down to the cable being out of adjustment where they had the box out the car.

Had it to a few shows as well...having not seen another P6 at a show for ages, I was surprised to see one the same year and colour (albeit a "S") at the Gloucestershire Motor Show last weekend.
