Hi,

I'm Sam, just shy of my 18th birthday, and from Sheffield. until mid-June I was a student, now a full time dosser until I start university in September (Although searching frantically for a job - there's NOWT about for students). When I've managed to secure an income, i'm looking at getting myself a car - and a P6 is currently top of the wish-list.

So I've joined here in anticipation of getting one, and in the hope of getting a general feel for what owners think of them. Richard (quattro) told me about this place today at the Sheffield Festival of Transport, so i thought I'd join up.

Welcome. I hope you wont have too long or too hard a search for the P6.

Graeme

Fingers crossed I shan't - it's really down to finding a job first then someone who'll give me a half-decent insurance quote.

Thanks for the welcome Graeme.

Any young P6 owners here btw that could offer insurance tips etc?

Will be interesting what quotes you get. Beware that some classic insurance policies don't earn you any no claims bonus.

You can't even get on most classic policies until you're 21, or so I've found.

Welcome btw.

Cheers for the welcome, and the advice Zeuss.

I'm hoping to try and get a classics policy with either Lancaster or Adrian flux - as my old man's with Flux I could take advantage of a second-car-in-the-household discount, and I understand Lancaster were able to insure Peter Melville's (MCi Automotive) Metro when he was 17 on a classics policy.

Hia,
I cannot help you when it comes to classic insure for under 21's as I am 26. But i must say I love the fact that classic cars can be at least half the price of a new car to insure.

I own 2 cars. A modern 2003 peugeot which is a 1.4 diesel which costs me just over £500 to insure.
But a 30yr old classic car with a V8, is £127.

I really don't get that...........

hmmm.....
anyone know of a classic that can do 75miles to the gallon that I could use instead of my everday car :D :p

:) Well...maybe not 75...but 50+!

(See all the little 'uns here. Great fun! :D

Evening Sam,

From last year I've been the owner of a 2000tc, which I first got insured when I was 21, or there abouts, unfortunately since then it has biodegraded on my parents drive but when it was still running and useable I had it insured through Lancaster Insurance. It cost my the dizzy heights of £300 a year or, again, there abouts and they're pretty helpful, though that said, I'd strongly recommend you get breakdown cover for when (for example) you're car breaks down from Dundee to Edinburgh on Christmas Eve.

The people on here are a fountain of knowledge and really decent. They've helped me heaps.
