HIF6 gasket anomaly

Dear Forum,

My HIF6 has an aperture let into the face of the flange which attaches it to the inlet manifold via another flange (which incorporates the throttle linkage). However, the gasket I removed from between these two flanges does not have a corresponding hole and accordingly, has bulged out into the aperture.

Please, Is this correct?

Any holes that go into the carb body shouldn't be blocked off by gaskets as they might transfer engine vacuum . It certainly looks like there's been some vac there to make it deflect like that. If the corresponding hole in the manifold isn't blocked off I'd remove the bulged part in the gasket with a punch before reassembly. Not sure from your photo but if the hole just goes through the flange but not into the carb body it will be fine as it is.

Thanks for your response, Pat.

I will not be able to look at the carb again until tomorrow...I will double-check whether or not the 'hole' goes up into the carb body.
