Hot feet

when driving in summer with an engine heated to normal there is quite a hot air stream touching my left foot from the left (on a RHD). Heating is off, of course. Where does it come from and how can I avoid it.
It hurts after 30 miles in midsummer (wonder if it's there when it's considerably colder) and I plan to travel tomorrow with my family for 3 hours with 31° C forecasted.

Anyone familiar with this challenge?

Hello Thomas,

As TP suggested, it could be the foam insulation that covers the flaps within the heaterbox being at fault,...the foam degrades so the flaps don't seal properly. To correct this you will need to remove the heater box from the car so as to gain access to the flaps.

Another far less troublesome possibility is that the heater flap or rather the lever that controls it needs adjustment. When in the closed position, sometimes the flap will not be fully home, so all you need do is adjust the linkage where it meets the flap control from inside the car so as to ensure that the flap is fully closed when the lever is in the fully cold position.

Hi,

thanks for the advice - I'll investigate. This particular airstream, however, seems to come from a different spot as the heating. At least if feels so when I open the gates to heating but maybe it's just the speed of hot air.

I've not had a look but could it be a gap round the pedal linkage , accelerator pedal linkage etc

Put a hose under the bonnet and see if water comes through

Strange thing. It starts getting cold and no hot air stream anymore. Hot feet turn to cold ones.

Temperature is on 85°. Will have a look at the outside of the heater and the screws / fixings there. But I fear it's something else
