How Long Have You Owned Your Rover?

Warren posed a good question over on my Rover's Birthday thread regarding years of ownership, and who might have owned their Rover for the longest.

Well for me, if I include my Dad's ownership, since I was at school at the time, and so sitting in the back was the norm, then 36 years. If on the other hand I only cover my ownership, then it comes to 29 years.

Ron.

I've had my V8 just over 8 years. None of the previous owners used it very much as all as I've done about 45% of the total mileage in it.

Its now nearly 15yrs of ownership and daily driver use with mine!
Longest time ive ever kept, and used a car!

Hi, the present 1975 P6b,( my 15th ) I've had 26 years, most of it as a daily, now "resting".
A1970 P5b coupe I've had 33 years now awaiting some welding and respray. A 1959 series 2 SWB
Land Rover 36 years currently doing a engine and gearbox rebuild.

Colin

I've owned my lhd 2000 the longest at about 15 years but I've never actually had it fully road legal in that time. My trusty TC has been with me for about 7 years of daily usage now, but I bought my first Rover about 19 years ago (when I was 19) and haven't been without at least one since then.

My dad bought mine in 1969. He had it until 1986 and I have had it since.
So 17 years with Dad. 28 years with me. 45 years in total in our family.
Over 245, 000 miles on it now.

Bought it in 1984 as a damaged one-owner car, repaired it, sold it in 1991, got it back in 2002, and had it since.

I had my first P6, a Cameroon green series 1 3500, for 6 months back in '86, not too long after I got my license. Followed by the adoption of a Scarab blue series 2 3500S for the summer of '87, which I broke for parts after my mate, who'd bought it, quickly shunted it rather badly. Not the best choice for a first car with no previous driving experience! Didn't have a garage at that age, and it was a bit too bent out of shape to fix on the street outside my mum's place! Moving out of the family home took precedence over trying to save it, alas. Wish I could remember the number plates! Also rue the fact I haven't a single photo of either car. I've just the one dog-eared pic of me and my first car, the 7.6litre V8 '72 Lincoln Town Coupé!
Got to hankering after a P6 again in about '99, took until summer 2000 before I found my 3rd 3500, NKT599M, an Arctic white '73 which I kept until I think 2011. It was joined by RWT363K, a just-as-rusty '72 3500 in the same colour combo in 2005 or 6. Took me the best part of 6 years to make one good 'un out of 'em both, as documented on the old site and continued on my build thread elsewhere here. Back on the road after the colour change to Admiralty blue in 2012, and I hope to keep it until I take my last breath. Love 'em to death, and this one in particular, having built it myself (yeah, granted, with an awful lot of help!). Motor (balanced and blueprinted) out of NKT, body from RWT, and the best bits of both to make the one good car. Maybe one day I'll get the point where absolutely everything works, but even with shonky wipers, shunted bumpers, iffy indicators and a host of other niggles, I simply love it!

Pics, you're havin' a laugh!

1972 3500S, Davos White/Huntsman, Sandalwood ambla boxpleat, front head restraints, PAS, tints, Continental spare, towbar, Minilites, and an LT77. I think that's about it.

A car that has been cherished by multiple generations is something to be very proud of, but when I asked my original question I was thinking in more precise terms. Fathers and grandfathers are, technically speaking, different owners. We also have multiple instances of cars being retrieved after periods with other owners. The interim period therefore ruins the continuity. I'd like to know the longest period that any individual has remained continuously faithful to the one Rover. So far we have:

Colin @33 years, 36 if you count his Land Rover.
Ron @29 years.
Talago @28 years.

Have I missed anybody?

Graeme, your car is a one-time buy-back. Is it 27 years since original purchase, or since buy-back? If the latter, I have to discount you from the finalists. As for me, at 18 years I simply don't make the competition. Pilkie, come back in a decade. Al, nobody could ever dispute your Rover credentials, but I'm afraid you're a bit of a tart. Everybody else appears to be in nappies.

Graeme, do you recall the old boy at the P6 50th who'd had his '65 2000 since new?

I bought my first car in March 2007 to use as a daily runner.

The first owner kept the car for 8 years and the chap who restored the car in 1990 owned it for 9 years after a 7 year lay up.

I don't know if I am proud or ashamed that I have done 70% of the total mileage of the car - far more than the previous 6 owners combined.

I am going to throw Tom's hat in the ring (302Rover) - bought in 1970 and continuously owned (but not driven) by Tom that puts his ownership of the car at 44-ish years.

I still "technically" own my 2200TC bought in 1991; however, I suspect that under Warren's ownership rules leaving the car with a mate in England who I believe may or may not have scrapped it will disqualify me :?

So that leaves me with ownership of the Wild Rover at an insignificant 3 years - and I have never even had a chance to drive it... :(

twas out of my hands for maybe 3 or 4 years, I must consult the ownership paper for more exact time period.

Yeah that old boy is probably the longest ownership in the world with out doubt.

Graeme

I bought mine new as ordered from the factory in 1972. But I sold her in 75 and bought her back late 80's so I count myself out of contention .Still nice to see my name first on the original ownership papers .
